It seems that the picture is becoming clearer on the screen issues and that Apple has partially admitted it. From what I can tell here is the story so far:
- The faulty screens are affecting models built in weeks 36 and 37 (this can be identified by looking at the 4th and 5th digit on your serial number i.e. 9c737xxxxx
what is not clear is whether all 36 and 37's are affected or if all 38's onwards are totally fine? Does anybody out there have a 36 or a 37 that is ok or a 38 with problems?
- Despite Apple's partial admission apple store staff seem completely unaware of the issue or (more likely) are aware but have been instructed not to acknowledge it.
In the US the Apple stores people are still being charged re-stocking fees, I don't believe this is the case in the UK but will find out for sure when I try and take mine back today.
Has anybody in the UK tried to return their's yet and if so what was your experience? and was the replacement OK?
I was going to wait till next week to exchange mine but after a phone conversation today with an apple store where they totally denied knowledge of any problems I am worried I may have problems the longer I leave it and that they are going to take the Ostrich's approach on this one and that only those who shout loud enough will get a refund or exchange. I am now more willing to exchange for one from the initial batch in the hope that I get a good one.
