it isn't released on iTunes in most European countries yet that is why

There is such a thing as getting too much hype. Folk can get fed up of hearing about something over and over or hearing something again and again. I think they are over playing things way too early - a couple of weeks before should have been enough with the type of promotion Leona is getting to get the message across that she has a single and a album coming out. And before anyone starts snarling at me I have already said that I think she will get number 1.
Lots of talk so far, but no video, but is there too much hype?

Leona has download and physical same day, its an advantage to get them in the same week.

It didn't work out for Shayne

To be honest, this is very hard to call. On a level playing field, I would think Britney would walk it, but she's not here promoting, she has split the downloads & physicals and she hasn't got the benefit of a promotion slot on XFactor. With both Take That & McFly to muddy the waters, it's going to be an interesting week, oh yes and Oasis are in there as well aren't they?

I don't think Britney would walk it. "Toxic" only stayed at the top for one week and "Gimme More" is no where near as good as that. She seems to consistently get top 10s here but not many #1s really.

She's had five UK #1s which is pretty good by anyone's standards

I agree, and not just with Leona (before i get a brick through me window, lol). Tracks are being released to radio and internet previewed WAY too early nowdays - 6 to 8 weeks usually. No wonder people illegally download and its affecting the level of legitimate downloads and physical purchases. If people hear something, they want to be able to buy it - if they can't they'll be happy using other means either with MP3 or burning to CD. Technology has moved ahead of the music industry and they're to blame - it used to be about 2 weeks between first hearing the track and being able to buy it. I think Leona, Take That, McFly and others have been overplayed to death and people might love it but do eventually get bored. By the time they are out the radio stations have even moved onto the next lot of pre-releases, lol.

I actually think them holding back Leona's video (if it is deliberate) and not doing too much promo until the release isn't a bad move because the music channels know how big X-Factors audience is and would have had it playing all the time. People were getting fed up off the amount of promo Shayne was doing too - he was everywhere.

Well her 4 US #1 albums would disprove your theory don't you think.

It really is pointless trying to belittle what Britney has achieved, it's all there for everyone to check. She's released 17 singles here in the UK, 15 top 10s, of which 11 have gone top 5, and 5 of those#1, two of those are off her last album

BTW, I'm not bothered who comes out top of the chart battle when they release, just pointing out that Britney won't be a walkover if her past success holds true.

Well it probably comes across that I don't like pointless blonde pop tarts and I don't. If Leona doesn't get the No 1 then I would rather see Take That get it.

Gimme More is just another drab generic pop track, the kind that GA and SG spew out continuously. Its not a song, its a production.

Leona is going to be on the Radio 1 live lounge soon and she will be singing "Bleeding Love" live acoustically. You won't see Britney doing that.

Sadly, Britney doesn't need to, more's the pity She doesn't even do 'Live' when she's in concert does she, but people still buy into her all the same.
There's a lot of people who seem very keen on 'drab generic pop tracks' you've only got to look on a site like Popjustice to recognise that, pages of threads devoted to the likes of GA, SGs and Britney of course, that's why this is hard to call

What an interesting read this thread is.

I imagine it will be 3/4 depending on how the Pogues have benefited from the publicity this week!

Its interesting to see just how varied FM's opinions were back in September / early October.

It really hits home how well she's done when we see how nervous everyone was back then.

Only Sazaleeno really hit the mark.

Although I'm sure none of us really expected her to do so well. She has got success that will 99.99% likely never come from another X Factor winner.

Completely agree, and its only the start! i did think she would do 3-4 weeks but with all the big name releases would never have guessed she could do almost 2 months at #1 and a 6 weeks #1 album so far!

Totally agree, and not forgetting biggest selling single of the year and possibly (hopefully) biggest selling album of the year. What a 3 months!

It is going to go either two ways.

1) It will be a total flop and will just get number 8 or something and then will dissapear from the charts after a month. This would be very very bad.

More reasonably though....

2) It will be number 1 for like 2 months, and then will stay in the top ten for another two, and then will gradually make its way down the charts over the space of 3 months.
Got that about right then lol. The funny thing was though, I was just saying that to make myself happy lol. I thought it would only get like number 3 lol.
