Need to buy TV - Help
Spleurker
22-09-2007
My folks have decided to buy a new telly, the one they have is ancient and on it's way out. They haven't got a clue about modern equipment and have asked me to sort them out.
They want a 32" TV.
Could anybody tell which manufacturers are to be recommended or avoided. Is it worth getting HD ready, as it looks as though channel 4 & BBC are to be starting broadcasting some HD.
They are having Virgin Media cable TV service, and are prepared to spend upto £600 or maybe more if they think it's worth it.
Any tips would be appreciated.
Thanks

You pretty well can't find any TV that's not 'HD Ready', there's not any point in making one.

You might check the Sony KDL32U2000, although it's the bottom of the Sony range it's better than many other LCD's.

If you're really lucky, Woolworths have had a very limited number for £399 - which is less than trade price. I believe the price has now increased to £479, still a stonking good deal!.

Steer clear of the Sony KDL32U2000, very basic model and gets quite poor reviews.

Sometimes you have to ask yourself why it is so cheap, and the reason unfortunately is because it is so basic.

If the budget is £600 then I'd recommend these:

Panasonic TX-32LMD70
Samsung LE-32R87BD

If you want to spend more then the

Panasonic TX-32LXD700 is the best 32" LCD TV you will get, but it is slightly over budget (£740ish)

Go look at the Samsung and Panasonic though and see what you think.

The M87 at 32" isn't 'Full HD' (as you would expect from a 32") even though some sites list it as '1080p'

It does have 100Hz refresh rate which is good for SD viewing.

I know the Dixon Store Group had an exclusivity deal with Samsung on the M86 and just to confuse you the M87 was available to everyone else.

The M86 is recokoned to be the better of the two, but this may be due to Samsung and its questionnable quality control.

I'd say the LE32M87B (or LE32M86BDX etc. don't worry they are the same) is a worthy choice though, especially with the 100Hz.
