Manually setting a recording with MyStuff
David Fenwick
22-09-2007
Hi,

I'm using the latest version of MyStuff on a Topfield TF5800 PVR.

I'd like to record a forthcoming programme on a channel for which I'm not receiving any info in the EPG at the moment.

Is it possible to set a recording manually whilst using MyStuff?

I notice that it's possible to do this using the original UI. Can I set recordings with both the original UI and MyStuff or are they mutually exclusive?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Best Wishes,

David

Just hit menu and set it manually. MyStuff should be able to cope with it, otherwise I'd like to know what's going on.

The best place to ask for help is probably the Toppy forums, where the author of MyStuff and the guy who wrote the manual can be found.

You're likely to get a well-informed response pretty quickly there.

I've found that this forum is better.

You probably find that some of the Toppy forum members are also posters over here.

Whilst Ian has answered your specific question about manual recordings using MyStuff, there's an underlying issue which is, why are you getting gaps in your MyStuff EPG?
Some possible answers:

1 The machine needs a power cycle (off at the wall, leave for minute, back on again). How often it needs this depends on how many TAPs are installed and whether any of them have a memory leakage problem. I've run for about 6 months without needing a power cycle and thought I needed one recently but it was actually because of...

2 The machine had been left on QVC as the default channel for about a week and the gaps were getting worse. I switched to BBC1, left it to do a scan (I've got it set for once per hour) and, voila, all gaps gone! So, I presume some muxes are much better at providing EPG data than others.

Hope this helps

Hopefully KennyT and I have now solved your problem, David Fenwick.

I understood the problem to be that he was trying to record something too far in advance (say 10 days) of the EPG. Is this not the case?

Glen.

Could be. I just read it as a 'no information' problem. Best let the OP clarify it.

If its just a case of the programme in question being more than 7 days ahead then a Control Timer is what you need. This would constantly monitor for any instance of (for example) 'Girls with Guns' appearing in the EPG and set a timer accordingly without any further intervention.

If you're not too sure what I'm talking about try www.toppy.org.uk or www.bobdsmystuff.co.uk for

Thanks for all the posts chaps - much appreciated.

I tried the power off but I'm still not receiving EPG data for ITV2, ITV3 or the BBCi channels from 301-305.

One of my neighbours has a Panasonic DVD recorder which receives EPG info and he's also missing these channels.

Could it be a reception issue? I live in Sandwich, Kent.

There are quite a few posts about missing itv data on the toppy forums. I didn't delve into them (my epg is fine) but i think perhaps a rescan is needed.

Glen.

[edit: delete offending channels then rescan - should solve problem]
