Watching Sky thru an Archos 700TV ... Please help ??

Hi folks.

I have recently purchase an Archos Av700TV. The idea was (amongs its numerous other uses) when i was away in my caravan to watch Sky thru it "live" (as per a normal TV). I can only get the Sky signal through the Videocoder (on the Archos) which only seems to offer a reduced screen size.

Is there a way to get a full 7" screen Sky broadcast on the Archos without pre-recording first.

Can it be set up thru the RF connection for instance or perhaps i'm missing something completely obvious (i hope)

Advice really would be appreciated.

Many Thanks

I got one recently too, I think its really good, except I thought it would have the radio stations, and it Doesnt have the ability to record one station and watch another (oh well, still very useful anyway). Still, from what you are saying I think you need too look at the Display settings and set "screen format " (I think) to 16:9 or AUTO, Sky News should show up in 16:9 (all BBC, Filmfour, etc is 16:9, however i think Hits and a few other channels are 4:3. But you should definately be able to get full, widescreen on most channels.

Hi Bernard.... Thanks for your response .... I have tried all the different formats on the Archos & the Sky settings but still no joy

Only time i get full screen is when playing a pre-recorded video file i've downloaded from Sky to the Archos

I still cant get a full screen when watching a Sky program "live" .

just sounds really odd. Could easily be a faulty machine, you didnt get a refurbished one did you ?...I know some outlets were selling em off cheap. Like I said, I always watch in full screen, record in full screen etc all on the unit. I would consider returning it for replacement cos it isnt doing what it should

Yes mate it is a refurb i bought last week ... Can i confirm with you that you watch Sky TV "live" through your Archos & do you watch it through the videocord function ???

G4fne, I am not much of an expert, but when you say watch sky tv through it I assume you mean the inbuilt freeview (including Sky News, Sky Sports, etc), if so then yes I watch and record in full widescreen except for a couple of channels, (ie UkHistory, Hits) that broadcast only in 4:3. When you do a scan for channels, you should be able to get approx 55 channels (but some are Blank, such as UKGold, TopupTv), and you should be able to record any channel you are watching with one press of the button.... NOW if you are connecting an external sky box to the unit then I have no idea, but If you are using it as I have just described then it should pretty much be all in full widescreen.........Like I say I think you have a faulty unit, dunno if its any help but my local Currys (Harrow) have them brand new for only £181, best price I have seen, brand new.........hopefully this has been of help.

oh ps, have you done a fimware update?......I needed to do one to get more channels, but the screen issue sounds a strange problem..........Now thats about all I know mate

OK thanks for your responses .... I am using Sky as an external source.

Everything coming through the Archos Freeview is fine & works great, everything i record & playback (includin stuff recorded off my Sky planner) is also fine & works great
The problem only arises when i watch Sky as an external source "live".

Has anyone else come across this ... I am using the travel cables to connect to the Sky box. Does anyone know if using the RF out on the Sky box is an option (i doubt this & realise its a long shot) ... I cannot understand the logic of it & pergaps i've got it set up wrong ... perhaps i'm not supposed to view through the videorecord function & there is another way i'm unaware of

The link is a photo that may explain it better & whether its normal
