They have by far the best 3g network in terms of coverage. Their 2g network is as good as oranges.

Misleading thread title.

The award was 'Best network at the Mobile Entertainment awards".

So in reality the award by whoever decided it's gift relates to 3 as a 'mobile entertainment service' and in that area they have always been fairly ahead of the rest.

Meanwhile in the real world, 3 UK are desparately trying to share the crippling cost of their 3G network and the parent company have been reported to be doing the rounds again trying to dispose of the millstone.

I'm pretty sure 3 are better than used to be but looking at what the independent High Street retailers are promoting tells you that 3 is not a network worth much support. Check out the deals at CPW, Phones4U and elsewhere, only place you see 3 heavily promoted is in their own outlets.

BTW: Their 2G coverage is Orange's they dont have a 2G licence!!

3 are opening more and more stores if i was a customer i would prefer to go to a network shop like 02 orange 3 where i get the best deal and no problems plus i can mess with the phone a bit. here is the carphone warehouse website they have a good selection of phones on 3. http://shop.carphonewarehouse.com/pay-monthly/three/

Lots of obsolete and discontinued models there (Nokia N-80, 6680) and two colour varients of the same budget model (SE K610i).

There are exactly 6 handsets to choose from on the CPW site on 3!!

Hmmm....

CPW nor any other High Street major is really promoting 3 nowadays. Could be due to poorer commissions, 3's more stringent returns policy (No 14 day trial period), or previous trading experience. Whatever the reason 3 appear to have more reliance on their own distribution than any other network in the UK and the rate at which they gained customers in the last year was nothing more than a trickle of growth compared to the established players.

Watch this space ..... 5 UK mob ops will become 4 within 12 months and it wont be Voda, 02, Orange or T-Mobile who dissapears.

there are talks of 3 joining up with t mobile to be part of the network so if that is true 3 will turn in to t-mobile but keep there services

T Mobile and 3 have announced a mast sharing venture. Hutchinson have now stopped investing in 3, which looks like they are lining it up for sale. T Mobile are the likely buyer.

No deal has yet been agreed but it's likely 3 will have to find a relationship with another provider as their termination rates will shortly be slashed (by Ofcom) and they only have 4 million sharing their costs compared with 14 million + customers for the others.

Hutchison will have another 3 hungry competitors too after 2010 so there seems to be a major incentive for them to get out of the UK. Sadly for Hutchison 3G content did not sell well and all they ever did to attract customers was drive down prices offering limited offshore customer support. The 3G technology simply didn't deliver any viable customer benefits and few customers really want more than voice and text services which GSM can deliver with ease.

Hutchison will probably do a deal soon to share and ultimately dispose of their 3 network in the UK and that should be an issue for prospective buyers as it could be worrying commiting to an 18 month contract when the company has a 'For Sale' sign above the door.

you can wish all you want for 3 to close but it wont happen 3 have gained a million customers this year plus they have plans to open more shops in 2008 they are a company on the grow if you look around no other network offer what 3 do when you go on holiday that's a big selling point.

I reckon they'd also win the prize of "best network with useless indian callcentre".

Oh dear. Building a customer base on selling £15/month contracts is not difficult. Making money out of that model is the challenge. Despite what you say, Hutchinson have already stopped investing in 3 and have put it up for sale.

its not just the £15 contracts you get to use you min and text in 3 network countrys and in the rest of europe you get 25p calls 10p to receive 25p to text people

Been on 3 for over a year now as has g/f and sister and a few problems that were sorted quickly.

Customer service now is much better than when i used them a few years back but still not perfect being that its an indian call center.

3G coverage is ace as it their services on planet 3, call quality imo is above what i have heard on o2 and vodaphone.

If T-Mobile are in the frame for taking it over, what do you think the time-line would be and will it switch to T-Mobile transmitters? I have a 3 contract until July 08 and T-Mobile in my area has a poor signal.

As mentioned previously the 2 companies have just announced a mast sharing agreement.

Source?

Otherwise, you're just spouting speculation as official news (aka 'Lying') - Like Wavejock did a while back claiming they were being sold to China Mobile

I'm not saying it's impossible, I'll just believe it when it happens. And that doesn't include posting guesswork as fact.

There is nothing at this moment in time that confirms 3 are up for sale. Fact.

To use your terminology; "Deal with it".

Well thank you for doubting my honesty. As someone that reads all the mobile trade press I am surprised that you missed talk of the 3 and T-Mobile situation in all of last week's journals.

Rumor and speculation. Hutchison Whampoa has put 3G mobile operator 3 Italia up for sale. Any proposed disposal of 3 UK is merely speculation.

If you read Mr Cable's post he asks for a source to your claims of 3 being up for sale. Not T-Mobile mast share. We trust you will oblige.

From a commercial point of view it's probable, but I think you're painting press / industry rumors and speculation as fact, or conclusive.

Is there any online sources that may give solid substance to the potential sale , I am for one , am very interested to read them

The sources were last week's mobile trade magazines. As I said. And you spelt rumour wrong.

That may well be the case but, surely if it was in the press, it's on the web. You sound rattled....

(You used "And" after a full stop.)

I hope this is nonsense; I've just switched from T-Mobile (2G) to Three (3G) and the latter is vastly superior in signal and call quality, not to mention a cheaper contract and faster data. I don't want to end up back with T-Mobile!

if they do get 3 i don't see them stopping the 3 services as 3 have the best 3g service in the uk they would most probably change the name and keep every thing else the same.
