I'm looking for a new phone...with GPS, 3G, real internet...
Hi all,
So, yes the iPhone looks nice and it seems cool but I would actually prefer a phone with a real GPS. The iPhone will probably get it but not for at least a year... Anyway, I'm thinking of upgrading. I've always had (Sony) Ericsson, but I don't think they offer GPS devices. I've seen the Nokia 6110 Navigator, it looks good and does pretty much all I want, but has anyone here used it? I like some of the features I have on my current phone such as notifying when an SMS is received on the recipient's phone and geeky stuff like that. I also want a device where I can go on the real internet, where I could log on to my emails, search for stuff, wikipedia, or even post on DS. Also, if possible wifi would be good but I don't get how it works. Wouldn't the owner of the connection see what I'm doing? So, which device is for me? gaffer |

Hi gaffer...
Have you considered the Nokia N95? It ticks all of the boxes you mention and you can get really good deals on them (unlike when the iPhone hits the streets!) |

The Nokia N95 looks good but I've just read that the GPS is a bit unreliable.
There's supposed to be a fix for it coming out, though. |

The Nokia 6110 seems ok. Uses different mapping to the 95 I believe.

Thanks, all 3 look interesting, however I think the 6110 may be enough.
I'm just concerned that it doesn't have wifi, but would appreciate it if someone could answer my question in the original post about wifi. Also, if anyone's actually used the 6110...? gaffer |

With Wifi, you would get internet access via an "access point". This could be anything from your wireless router (if you have one) at home to one in a coffee shop, motorway services or hotel. Some mobile carriers have access points dotted about too (often you're given bundled access to these via your data package) and totally free wireless access is becoming more common in places like Norwich. Most access ponts require a security "key" to connect. Coffess shops etc will often charge you for the key, which will be valid for a given amount of time - eg. 30 minutes for £5**. Generally speaking, those running the connections won't "watch" what you are doing* but you will be often routed through a "proxy server" which will "cache" visited web pages etc. Providers may also restrict what pages may be visited with their wifi network. * This is technically possible but unlikely to happen ** Example - I'm not quoting anyone's specific price Hope this helps a little... |

I may actually prefer using 3G then, rather than wifi... I'm edging towards the 6110, I may go have a look at it this week. Anyone actually tried one? Could I for example post on DS with one? gaffer |
