Are the silicone ones the best to go for or are hard ones better. I think I might be one of those who drops the unit, what would be best to protect it?

I have a black rubber one to protect my 30gb ipod, only annoying thing is the cover doesnt protect the screen but it keeps it clean enough, got it cheap from ebay

I've got a Belkin black leather one for mine. Had it about 18 months, very hard wearing, no scuffs or breakages. Only issue was that I had to cut out the plastic cover for the IPOD wheel, it just didn't work with the cover in place.

Did you get a case with your iPod?

I did, and find it more than suitable for its purpose. The scroll wheel works fine through it as well.

I can't remember the name of my case - evo iSkin I think. It's kind of rubber, but with a plastic part for covering the screen.

It's has some hammer for nearly two years now and seems to be coping very good. I even dropped it from around 5ft whilst traveling on a bike - case and iPod were fine.

Only downsides are that, if you take off the supplied belt clip you have two small holes on the back (though these are easily covered)... and as with all rubber cases they are very 'frictionfull' which can be a pain when getting them in and out of your pocket.

ilounge have some good reviews on their website to help you decide.
