Here in Herefordshire (Ridge Hill transmitter) Channel 4+1 appears on channel 37. Unfortunately this is also the channel broadcasting Smile TV.
To access 4+1 I have to go to 37 and then + a channel.
The recordings and Programme info always default to Smile TV. (i.e the recordings are always Smile TV logo and the 37 prgramme guide is 4+1.)
Not a huge priority, and I have a similar the problem on the Digi Tuner of the TV and a digi box.

I am using MYstuff 5.21a and latest firmware ( not the beta).
Any hints... I can happily junk Smile TV (and quite a few other channels).

Delete Smile!

You can do it manually by pressing OK, then Red, or you could use the Channel Remover TAP or Channel Manager TAP to delete all the ones you don't want in a single go.

This must be a bug in either the Topfield or your TAP(s) - there's no way that two channels could share an LCN in the broadcast signal, it must be being misinterpreted by the box.

Well, two channels used to in the OnDigital days, didn't they - they just didn't broadcast at the same time.

When you do a channel scan, it's additive on the Toppy. The best way to solve problems when channels move numbers is to do a factory reset, which deletes all the channels, and then rescan.

A reset won't clear the hard disk, but you will need to reset timers, though if you're using something like MyStuff, that's going to happen by magic for you anyway.

You may be right, but these days they all have separate LCN's, and Channel 4+1's is 13, not 37!

Sorry Jerry. You've been victim to the ridiculous software that is Topfield. How could anyone produce a Set Top Box and not make provision for channels moving and being deleted. To go have to do it manually is pains-taking and ridiculous. I had to do it myself recently after moving.

It's not the only box out there that does that; and then there are the ones that people complain about that pop up messages about new channels all the time, even though there aren't any - see various posts in the Freeview forum - because they try to be too clever.

It's not ideal behaviour, but nor are many of the other boxes I've seen around.

How exactly should a box know when to delete something, and when there's simply a mux - or just a channel - missing because of an aerial problem?

Even the old OnDigital boxes needed this sort of thing too - I remember the various occassions on which we were told we had to do a 'Store channels' rather than an 'Add channels' because the former deleted all and started again while the latter was - just like the Topfield - merely additive.

But if you want to believe only Topfield has issues, go right ahead...

My old Netgem iPlayer used to do that - Mux C was always a bit dodgy reception-wise, and I would lose it in bad weather. The iPlayer would pop up a message saying that there had been channel changes (not detailing them of course), OK to accept or Cancel. If you hit OK without thinking, all MuxC channels would be removed (although it did not tell you that they had been removed of course). Very annoying.

At least on the Toppy if there are any such problems (less now due to an aerial amp to facilitate the splitting of the signal to the two tuners) I just get a "No signal at tuner x" message.

And channel changes - by using the ChannelManager tap, it's much easier than before.

Well, that's not exactly making no provision. It's just making it tedious to do. Admittedly they should've made deleting multiple channels easier and provided an option to allow easy removal of ones that are no longer available during a channel scan. However, the beauty of the Topfield is that if there's a feature you don't like or a bug or quirk in the software, it can usually be circumvented with one of the many TAPs. With all the other boxes out there, you've got to lump it (yeah, OK, the Digifusions have been hacked a bit, but not on the same scale).

ChannelManager and ChannelRemover are two of those TAPs

Sorry to provoke a some of you to slag off the Toppy, I think it's great.

I am sure it not just the Toppy as the TV has the same problem. Of course Smile TV broadcasts during the middle of the night. ( What the programmes are I am not sure )

Taps it is; and maybe a system reset when the new Firmware comes out of Beta.

The Toppy fixed it, a reset sorted all the channels and then I had to make sure that MyStuff used the Toppy's freeview EPG.
All fixed now... with minimum fuss and 4+1 is now on number 13.
