I have a Samsung ws-28v53n which is 4-5 years old now, and a region 2 DVD player of roughly the same age. Although the equipments still working fine I think the time has come for me to go with a Multi-region DVD player. I've been told that not all tv's will be able to play back NTSC though, could anyone tell me if mine will or not?
Many thanks in advance..Mark

At that age I would assume so.

I can't say for sure, as I don't have special knowledge of that particular model, but the chances are it will be able to display NTSC properly. For quite a few years now most non-US TVs have been made with international chipsets for markets wordwide. Since it's DVD too, your chances are further improved by using RGB and scart to connect (there's only the number of lines and frame rate to worry about).

Hope that helps!

You don't need the TV to be able to play NTSC just take an RGB input at 525/60. I'd be amazed if your TV couldn't do that given its age.

Any tv manufactured since the last 20 years or so will almost certainly be capable of NTSC display.

Some don't (so I'm told) but will handle PAL 60 or 525/60 via RGB. Who uses PAL or NTSC from a DVD player anyway? Even if the RGB scarts are used up (and no component or HDMI) then a switcher or playing though a digibox can get around this.
