Amazon.com import charges
Mikay

Couldn't make up my mind, so I decided to post it here anyway.

I was just wondering what the import charges may be for ordering off Amazon.com

I think the largest import I've ordered was Veronica Mars seasons one and two (ordered separately) and they came to about £18, and avoided import charges.

However, I'm going to be ordering Strangers With Candy which is a complete series boxset. In total, it comes to $46.47 which, according to XE.com is £23.03.

Do you think I'll be stung by taxes? I'm not sure how heavy it is, but it's a 6 disc boxset.

If it is over £18 it can be, I got stung for it importing 2 DVD boxsets, was about 9 quid I think.

Just your luck if it is caught or not.

How much extra are they likely to charge you? And how do they charge you?

Edit: You said £9.. didn't see that bit.

I've ordered many items from the USA over the years (but never DVD's funnily enough), and only been caught once.

They charged:

Import duty.
17.5% VAT.
Post Office charge for collecting the money.

Ah right, so they send you a note to pick up, and you pay then.

Thanks for that. I guess it's all down to luck then. Hope it's not much, it's for a birthday present and I resent spending up to a tenner more on them. If it were for myself, I wouldn't be too fussed. Haha
