It seems my dads hdd dvd recorder is rejecting my dvd rewritables. Last night i tried transferring prison break from his hdd to mine.

Sick of faulty disks im now looking at video senders. What i need is help and advice on how these work and if they will do what i want them to do.

Bascally i want to get hold of a video sender price not an issue to rig up so my hdd dvd recorder can pick up the sky box downstairs and then record directly without the need for dvds.

Question is A. will this work, B. whats the quality like and C. if it does which product can anyone recommend.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

From the "High St" I use only Verbatim discs - quite reasonable price in PC World. Generally the recommendation is any disc that uses Taiyo Uden dyes.

I had huge problems when I first started to record DVD's with even re-reading discs on the recording device let alone playing on other DVD players. Having switched to using Verbatim only I have just encountered my first problem in over 100 discs where my son is getting freezes on a recording I made for him - but could be his player is on the way out (it is a cheapo and 5 years old!)??

PS the first pack of 5 DVD's I bought were Tesco +RW 's they actually worked and still work great. I later found that on installing DVDIdentifier (Freeware) that they were badged Verbatims! Susequent purchases of Tesco branded discs (+/-R/RW) however did not repeat the initial successes - far from it! DVDIdentifier confirmed that these later Tesco discs were from much lower rated producers.

To answer the original question - we use a Philips SLV5400 video sender, with an additional reciever box so we can pipe up to 4 SCART inputs from the main setup to 2 other locations around the house. A quick answer to the questions:

A. Yes, it will work.

B. Watchable - one sender is hooked up to a 30" LCD TV, and it is a perfectly good picture and sound, however it is not an RGB signal and the audio has to go via the SCART so there are limitations. Basically, I wouldn't use it to copy from the Sky box if you wanted a perfect copy with a digital soundtrack from the movie channels etc. Note also that it can suffer from interference - wireless broadband routers can interfere, as well as microwave ovens. I'm sure others will be able to add their own problem devices.

C. I've had no problems with the SLV5400. More expensive than some, but flexible and has 4 inputs on the sender (we use Sky+ and the Freeview HDD/DVD box).
