Too right remember last year with all the judges bias shown towards Emma, in comparison Carol Smillie couldn't get anything right with Arlene who seemed to constantly go against her

Not just the celebs. The dancers, the judges, the crew, the band, the audience. Much cheaper to do it on the Saturday rather than take up a studio for two days.

The reason for the phone lines only being open for an hour after the show is so that they know the bottom two on Saturday night. Don't you think that if it was live on Sunday, you'd be able to vote right up to the end?

The ratings war with ITV is ridiculous and it's the viewers who have to suffer. Shame on the lot of them.

Sadly, I think that this has much to do with the changes (especially the scheduling).

In which case, whoever the judges vote out on the Saturday recording will be leaked and the Sunday show will have no tension...

Can't we all email the BBC to tell them what a crap idea this is?

Of course it does. There's no other reason for doing it. BBC1 in particular is becoming increasingly ratings driven - I'm just waiting for the announcement of a fifth weekly episode of EastEnders. Only a matter of time...

I think that if the BBC put Strictly on early Sunday evening it will somehow damage EM and just encourage ITV to clash EE and EM, which is completly illogical and unwise for the BBC as EE is their flagship show.

I think this is how they'll go about it:

7:00 Antiques Roadshow
8:00 SCD Results
9:00 Michael Pallin/ TopGear
10:00 BBC News

BBC are completly right about ITV being childish and not going down to their levels (they're the same EE vs emmerdale war). ITV is ghastly but anyways hope SCD wins the ratings war, this series of X Factor has been so rubbish, no stand outs at all. I am glad the true entertainment is back tonight.

What difference would it make though? They already do it to EE, but yeah I think BBC should do that, give ITV a taste of their own medicine.

When Strictly had their Xmas spec on Xmas day, it clashed with Corrie and Strictly perfromed very well, considering it was a one off, it would thrash EM.

I agree to an extent with you about TXF it just doeset seem to be focused around the talent anymoe, its just about humiliating people and judges feuds.

I like many others will record TXF on Saturdays and flick though the breaks and sob stories etc. Whilst watching Strictly live.

I could be wrong but I'm sure I read somewhere that ITV were rumoured to be planning a double doze of X Factor for next weekend

I had a response from the BBC about my complaint. Here is what they said:

Quote: Thank you for your e-mail regarding 'Strictly Come Dancing'.

I understand that you are unhappy that the format of the show has changed and the results show will now be broadcast on a Sunday. If I can explain the rationale behind the changes, putting the results on a Sunday means we can extend the show to include more of what we feel the audience wants. This includes more dancing and also footage from behind the scenes. There is as much of an appetite for light entertainment and family viewing on Sundays as there is on Saturdays.

'Strictly Come Dancing' is a family show but quite often people go out after the main programme on Saturdays or children go to bed so they miss the results due to the transmission time. We feel moving the results to Sundays and extending the show means that all the family can catch up with what happens. We also know there is a real appetite for more 'Strictly Come Dancing' so extending the results means we can include more of what we feel the audience wants such as more dancing and behind the scenes footage.

The viewers and judges vote is still vital to keep your favourite contestant in the competition. But following audience research we found that viewers appreciate the expert knowledge of the judges and like them to make decisions about who stays and goes. We have decided to try something new and following the viewers and judges vote to determine which two couples are in the bottom, the judges will make the final decision based purely on the repeat performance in the results show.

We must add that the viewers vote is really important as it will determine who is in the bottom two so they must vote to keep their favourites out of the danger zone. But it will then be up to the judges to save one of the bottom two couples.

I would like to assure you that we have registered your comments on our audience log. This is the internal report of audience feedback which we compile daily for all programme makers and commissioning executives within the BBC, and also their senior management. It ensures that your points, and all other comments we receive, are circulated and considered across the BBC.

Thank you once again for contacting us.

Regards

Richard Carey

Sounds like some pretty dodgy research to me

Has anyone here had their views researched? It seems to me if the researchers looked on any of the main SCD discussion forums, they would find dancers and non-dancers who do not feel that way at all. IMO the majority of people on every board I read do not find the judges to be sufficiently constructive, unbiased or in any way "expert".
And of the people I know in real life who watch the show, it seems to be pretty much the same.

Thanks for sharing your reply

thanks for posting your reply - i will post mine IF i get one!!!

nope i have not been approached for my views!! and yes I think if they came on here (or indeed any of the dancers sites) they would find a totally different response to the "reasearched" results they are basing their chnages on - people go out!!! - what people??? I certainly dont go out - I want to know the results, I sacrifice many a Sat night when SCD is on!

Gosh, I have a reply too:

Dear <insert viewer name here>

Thankyou for your email regarding 'Strictly Come Dancing'. Whilst we appreciate that on the face of it, your email was complaining about the proposed changes to the format, I can assure you that you are in actual fact supportative of the change, and I shall be feeding this back our market researchers as soon as possible.

'Strictly Come Dancing' is a family show but quite often people go out after the main programme on Saturdays. We can't imagine why, given the glorious feast of Robin Hood and Dale Winton on the lottery, but who cares because we can still brag about BBC dominating Saturday nights.

Please understand that the rationale behind the change is that once we've found a programme that pulls in these plebs (the name we give to viewers internally at the BBC), we milk it for all it's worth. As I'm sure you'll appreciate, now we've got the figures on the doors for Saturday, we're relying on them to come back like docile sheep, bleating a happy tune, for a repeat dose on the Sunday.

May I also assure you that well over 60% of the content of the Sunday show will be "carried over" from the Saturday show. Whilst some people (those pesky plebs again) might interpret this as a "repeat", our research and feedback suggests that you plebs have the memory of deceased goldfish, and need to be reminded of what happened the day before, in great detail.

Thank you for contacting us, and please let me assure you that going forward, we've taken not one blind bit of notice of you. Due to the unique way the BBC is funded, we'll still get our bit, don't you worry.

Regards,
BBC

Katie I replied to the nice Mr. Carey and said I was sure he and other decision-makers at the BBC read Points of View and the DS forums - and if not, to do so in order to find out where the majority view stands. I'll post my reply for you if you like.

LOL. Very good
I do feel though that if enough people complain loudly enough they will be heard.

I got quite a long way through this before I realised it wasn't genuine!
Spot on.

I think many people who enjoyed watching SCD in the past will be turned off this time having the results on a sunday.

Alot of people i am sure like myself will not be bothered about watching it sunday evening.

You had all the exciting build-up saturday when the main show finished up until the results later. Now you wont have this.

If everyone complained to the BBC, they would not do anything. The only way to hit them where it hurts is to switch off sundays - If NO-ONE watched the results on sunday evening, the ratings would be poor and THEN i think they might re-consider.

WHY CHANGE SOMETHING THAT ISN`T BROKEN !!

I do think the BBC takes notice of feedback. One thing I've noticed is they don't have standard replies- even though the content is largely the same they take the time to write out a reply to each person.

Last year I emailed them about the atrocious camera work, and I know a number of others did as well. I thought it got better as a result- they didn't completely change it but it did get less hectic.
I don't think any number of emails would get them to change back to Saturdays, as you say only awful ratings will do that. But I hope they will take notice of our concerns regarding favouritism, results leaking early etc.

Also I will say that if they are going to increase the number of pro dances in the results show, that is a very good thing.
