Hi can anyone tell me is there a setting in the D.V.D. Recorder or L.C.D. for playback in HDMI. I have bought a Matsui 37 inch L.C.D. and have my LITEON D.V.D. Recorder connected to it. When i play a D.V.D. Film or something i have recorded onto Disc the picture on A/V 1 Channel is far better than the the HDMI Channel . The Recorder is connected to the L.C.D. with a scart Lead and the HDMI Lead .I know the Matsui is not the best L.C.D. in the world but the Picture on the A/V 1 Channel is really good compaired to the HDMI , Any ideas anyone., Thanks Francis

It sounds like your Matsui (hard as it is to believe!) has a better upscaler then the DVD player?.

By playing off the HDMI (I'm assuming upscaling) then the picture is being scaled twice, it may also be interlacing deinterlacing. Maybe if the hdmi was set to 576p that would produce the best picture.

Hi again everyone i have checked the set up menu on the D.V.D. Recorder and the H.D.M.I. was set at 576 , I have now reset it to 720 and will try that for the next few days, Then i will try the 1080 setting to see which one i prefer . I assumed that the D.V.D. Recorder would have been Factory set or an auto setting at the Highest or best setting for output. The picture is now Fantastic , Jim sorry you do not like Liteon Recorders but the two that i have work and produce great results. Nigel i know Matsui are not well thought of But i see nothing wrong with the picture it is now showing. Unfortunatly i am on a very tight budget and have had to buy Products within my price range thanks to a costly marriage and divorce nightmare . But any way thankyou all for your help in sorting out my set up , Thanks Francis

I'm surprised that 576p wasn't better than 720p (I'm assuming it was set to 576p not 576i), this must mean that the scaling in the DVD recorder is much better than in the TV. I'll be surprised if going to 1080i doesn't make the picture worse since not only is there 2 sets of scaling the TV will have to deinterlace as well.

Your results are the exact opposite of what I find with my Panny TV and DVD so it just goes to show how important it is to try all combinations.
