Hi, i have a panny TH37PX7B - and if you have one, you will know it does not have a pc port on it or s-video.

I want to connect my laptop to it. I bought a HDMI to DVA cable and DVA to VGA converter, but its not working.

ANy ideas how i can plug the laptop (usb, svideo, vga, expantion port) to my tv (scart, hdmi, RF)

AV2 (Scart socket) has a S-video input on it. You need something like this (link) to connect up.

You can't convert VGA to HDMI by passive cable/connectors alone.

And don't forget to change the AV2 settings on your TV!

The 32" LG I have at the moment is DVI but no HDMI.
Looking into for a new one and have been told that DVI to HDMI will work, but VGA to HDMI will not work due to the signals sent or something.

DVI is HDMI without the sound and sometimes without HDCP (copy protection), the latter would cause a problem. VGA to HDMI doesn't work because they are very different signals.

I bought something like htis, it was scart to s-video with audio cables - put it on, put the tv to AV2 and made sure it was on s-video on av2 and its still not working and yes, i pressed fn F4 on the laptop. The TV did flicker slightly but no picture came on it.

Any ideas?

I thought I'd chip in for what my advice is worth.

1) I guess the most likely explanation is that pressing F4 is switching the laptop output to the VGA output, not the S-Video, so do a little research for your brand of laptop, and check how you guarantee a switch to S-Video output.

2) With the laptop is various display modes (i.e. don't press F4, press F4, then any other combinations for switching to S-Video):

Combine above modes with various modes on your AV2 - whatever settings the TV allows, try all the combinations.

3) If none of that works, try AV1 on the TV in all the various combinations.

OK, just checked an HP manual at:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00630975.pdf

and that says the switch to S-Video is indeed fn+f4 to switch from laptop display to external display.

So, you can at least take that out of the equation.

Like the other guy said, what you want to do should be possible.

- Check you have AV2 on the TV in the right mode (AV2)

- Press Fn+F4 on the laptop.

- Are there any toggle switches on your lead that need to be switched??

- Is your lead defective?

Note, sometimes the image will appear black and white:

These guys say they have the solution:
