Anyone know yet if there are any plans to release a NEW cd with the NEW `Adelphi` cast including Lee ?

I notice they have re-released the `Palladium` cast recording with Jason.

RUG have said there are no plans as yet for a new recording and have included a token Lee track ( any dream will do ) on the re-released cd

Think they are making a big mistake as there is a huge market for a new recording.

Although this is just me being suspicious I can't help wondering if Jason Donovan's lawyers are involved in ensuring that HIS cast album will remain THE cast album.

Is there a genuine market for a cast album rather than a Lee album?

I doubt Jason Donovan gives a monkeys if another recording was made, theres loads of recordings from over the years and a newer touring one.

When ADWD started the JD version was flying off the shelves in HMV when I was in there.

I went to the show last night and heard several people complaining outside the kiosk that the recording was not of the current cast and therefore did not buy it.

Personally, I want to relive the show that I saw, not one that took place 16 years ago.

I intend to register my disgust with the present situation to RUG directly, contact details can be found here http://www.reallyuseful.com/rug/html/contact.htm It will not do! Jason Donovan has had 16 years to milk that particular 'cash cow' We want a New cast recording with Lee and Co, not a couple of token bonus tracks on a JD reissue!

I've already taken this up with Rug, their answer was:

There are no plans to produce another cast album for Joseph in the foreseeable future. The reason for this is that there are already numerous cast CDs in existence from various productions worldwide, and this latest London production is actually based on the 1991 cast album – which is available to purchase both in the theatre and online.

We do plan to release an extended version of this CD with two additional tracks, one being Lee Mead singing Any Dream Will Do, and the second will be Dean Collinson’s rendition of the Pharaoh’s new number – King of My Heart. For information about the release date please keep coming back to check the website.

I mailed them back to register my annoyance and asking if the matter could be brought to the attention of ALW and they replied again:

I am sorry to disappoint you but it is unlikely that we will reconsider this decision. However, there will be some exciting news about Lee Mead coming soon, so keep coming back to check the website for the latest information.

You can email via this address and I can pass your views on to the office of Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Naturally I've asked for certain views of mine to be passed on.

A cast recording would be great, but I'm not sure I wouldn't prefer a Lee album.

They did this for Connie (more or less immediately after the show), so why not Lee too?

It would definitely be profitable, they must be well aware of the hoards of fans he has out there, I can't understand what's holding them back.

Just seen Lassie's post, could an album be the exciting news they're hinting at?

JD probably gets very little if anything out of any sales of this as it is the writers/lyricist/composers who make the money ... not the performers.

Whilst I can understand why you would like a new 'Lee' recording ... they didn't do a SOM one for Connie - she did her own album .. I hope Lee does the same.

I don't understand why so much venom is being directed at JD ... it's not his decision .... he's busy off making a new TV series. Clearly RUG don't want to spend the money to re-record this CD ... the show is the same as the old show, the CD would be the same as the old CD.

I don't necessarily think it's fair on Lee ... but then they didn't give him a new show to play with either did they.

It will be the same story for Hairspray but with the new film and cd just out I very much doubt they will record a west end cast recording

I'm sure you're right .... if there is already a Broadway recording they NEVER do a West End version.

You might just get one with it being Michael Ball taking the lead in Hairspray.

I think this is awful!! When ADWD came onto the screens it made me all nostalgic so i went out andbought the Jason Donovan one. The only reason i bought it was because it was about £5 and the version i had it on originally was cassette!

Its really annoying because they might use the argument that people will buythe JD one but as a consumer I would definitely buy a new cast recording of it! And i know that when i went to see Joseph, the staff at the theatre were having to say to everyone who wanted to buy the cd that they should be aware its not Lee Mead....and a lot of people then chose not to buy it!!

This is really pathetic. To think that someone writing to Sir Lloyd Webber would make the slightest bit of difference.

I do not think that Sir LW will hold up his hands in shock and put together a CD just because someone called 'Lassie' has sent him an e-mail.

Good God, Get a Grip!

I don't expect he will, but at least I feel better for doing so. And if more people were to voice their opinions then maybe a combined effort would produce more of a result.

You really need to get a life if all you can worry about is what's on your Joseph CD.

Really no-one gives a sh*t and you need to get back to your pots and pans in the kitchen love.

Perhaps it may be others that need to get a life, posting on threads that they have absolutely no interest in.

its a thread about the cast CD on the Any Dream Will Do forum... if you're not interested or think it's beneath you, don't read.

is it really bothering you that much that some of us would like a cast recording with Lee on it? cause if so, someone else also needs to "get a life"...

There's no need to be so rude and chauvanistic. If we want to give a sh*t about it then what difference does it make to you?

*ignores troll*

Well thats put me in my place!

After sober reflection I still think that a new cast recording should be made, as there is obviously a market for it. JD may not profit much financially from the 1991 recording but he has milked his 'Joseph' connection for all its worth! I would love Lee to release a solo album and I would definately be buying it, but I will not buy the reissued JD 'Joseph' CD for 1 bonus track of Lee singing ADWD.

I think it's very odd to reply that the cast recording from 1991 is available so they aren't going to make another one! Don't they realise that people want to buy the recording of the show they actually watched!

They've been saying that bit about 'exciting news soon' for the last few months so I'm not gonna hold my breath!

BTW - thanks for this, Lassie
