I think it's very odd to reply that the cast recording from 1991 is available so they aren't going to make another one! Don't they realise that people want to buy the recording of the show they actually watched!
But it is the same show, yes there's a new song but its not a new production. You can't expect a new recording for every casting change. There have been many WE josephs since JD. Had Lee's single sold a bit more maybe a cast album would have been more viable .

I don't think people expect a new cast recording every time there is a cast change, but clearly, judging from the comments in the theatre, there is a whole new audience for Joseph brought in by the ADWD programme and Lee's undoubted appeal and they want to have a new recording of this current cast not an old one. I suspect that the powers that be want to cash in without much outlay - rather cheap IMHO

Of course we wouldn't expect a new CD for every cast change but it is 16 years since the last CD was produced so i don't think the request for a new one is unreasonable.

Re Lee's single i happen to think that getting to number 2 in the charts with your first record isn't actually bad.

And surely the first six months of this show virtually selling out before opening night shows a popularity for the current production that would make a new Cd more than viable.

How did The Sound of Music CD with Connie do in terms of sales?

If it did badly, perhaps this is the reason for the lack of CD? (just a thought)

I think it's wrong not to produce a CD. I have the Jason Donovan one, and I think it would be nice to update my collection with the new recording!

Had the following e-mail today from the `Really useful group`

Polydor Records imprint Fascination is delighted to announce the signing of Lee Mead to a long-term record deal.

The 26-year-old winner of BBC’s Any Dream Will Do is currently putting the finishing touches to his self titled debut album ‘Lee Mead’, which is set for release on November 19th. The first single ‘Gonna Make You A Star’ - originally a number one hit back in 1974 for David Essex –will follow on December 3rd.

Lee Mead has become a household name, earning rave reviews as the lead in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hugely successful sell out show ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’.

Fan of the show Gary Barlow went to see the musical earlier this year and as a result has written a new song called ‘When I Need You The Most’ for Lee’s album.

The album is being recorded at the famous Soho Studios in London and is being produced by award-winning producer Graham Stack, who has recently been working with Enrique Iglesias among others. ‘Lee Mead’ will also include Paint It Black as performed on the BBC’s Any Dream Will Do along with the official ‘Children In Need’ single ‘Any Dream Will Do’ which reached number two in the UK singles chart in the summer.

Lee is signed to Polydor via The Really Useful Group, with whom Polydor have enjoyed a successful relationship for more than twenty years.

I suppose this is the exciting news we were told about afew months ago from the RUG.

I'm gutted they have no plans to release Lee's version of Joseph.

I think it would de really well as he has such a big following.

I don't want Jason Donovan's version.
