I like the fact that the judges now have the final say!

Am I alone in this? Over the previous series I have got increasingly annoyed as the bad to awful dancers have stayed in expense of the better ones. Chris Parker, Fiona Phillips and Georgina readily springing to mind. Yes, some have to be given a chance to improve (i.e. Matt Dawson) but I wan't to see a dancing competition. I remember that series one ended with a wimper because Chris was no match for Natasha. Also, the judges will be choosing from the bottom two as chosen by the public, so its not like they are going to greatly 'shake thing up', or make a choice that is greatly removed from what the public thinks and wants. If anything the voting may actually be more reliable and accurate this year as viewers may feel more obliged to vote for their favourite from the offset.
However, don't get me started on the pre-recording issue as thats a whole different kettle of fish!

I'm with you on this. I have no problem with the judges deciding the final two - we still choose who is in the bottom two.

It's just the Sunday bit that I'm sad about.

I think the problem will be that the british public will vote in droves to keep the less able dancers out of the bottom two therefore forcing the judges into making a choice between two reasonable dancers who wouldn't have been in the bottom two had the system not been changed.

Then there is the controversy over the pro dancers and who the judges like/dislike - it is an interesting question that should someone like Brendan Cole come up against perhaps Karen Hardy in the dance off and both their celeb partners dance well - would the judges boot Brendan off because Karen hasn't kicked up a fuss in the past or would they look at the potential of the celebrity? It remains to be seen.....

I don't always agree with judges - eg Emma B last year. They fixated on her and were determined to keep her in. Mayber there is nobody 'famous' enough for them to suck up to this year.

I hear enough from them on the main show...now they've taken over the results show.

It's not about them, it's about the celebrities and the dancers. Everybody has a right to vote how they like but I'll be very dubious about voting this year. If my favourites ends up in the bottom 2 and the judges boot him/her I'll be aggrieved as it might be a decision taken by just 4 or even 2 people, not the public at large.

And they are biased. And some of the dancers they rave about might be very boring to me.

You make a good point frelltastic.

Im going to try to reserve judgement until Ive seen how it works. That saying, I wasnt thrilled when I first heard about it. I think the judges will keep in the best dancer in each instance -if they didnt do this then it would be a problem but the judges have never really had a favourite who couldnt dance.

Tell me about it, I remember the blatent favouritism shown to Emma Bunton last year while in comparison whatever Carol Smillie did Arlene found fault with it

Felt sorry for Carol and Matthew last year. They did a technically good Cha Cha Cha, Emma did an awful one and they both get 30!

Not to mention Emma's mistakes in the Jive-and she got 10s The judges have to remember to apply the same criteria of criticism to ALL celebs not just ones they may not like

Not sure if she got 10s in the Jive....but she was way overmarked.

That's what annoys the public...that the favourites' mistakes get ignored or glossed over and others' mistakes get really picked on.

I think you'll find it'll be Jane who is preferred

I don't always agree with him but Brendan was absolutely right to blow the whistle on the judges last series. I bet you first time he's in the bottom two he'll go - for rocking the boat and saying what we all think of their blatent bias

Hopefully (possibly) the judges will check themselves a little more as will realise that their decisions are more important this year?

I don't think Brendan will have a problem for the simple reason that he is dancing with this season's "big name".

Up till last year they weren't too bad. Didn't always agree with them, but it was never blatant. As long as they don't all decide to like one in advance this time, should be OK. Am looking so forward to all the beautiful clothes and dancing.

I have a hunch that one of the judges will pick Kelly up for every little mistake. Can't think who that will be

Well it won't be Craig, I predict that right now!

I didn't mean to sound negative about Kelly, I think she'll turn out to be really good actually. But I don't think Brendan will have to worry about the judges picking on him, IF they are in the bottom two I think there's a strong chance they'll want to keep Kelly in.

Hmm, I don't agree with you on that one, especially in the earlier episodes, she got 7's when I was there and it was quite a way into the competition. Plus I think they quite like Darren B, rather than trying to eek out Emma's stay in the competition.

I'm with fern3, I like the judges having more say (though it wont stop what you believe is true from last year MegaDancer, if indeed it is true). I just hate the fact that we have to wait till Sunday, for a pre-recorded show, to find out the inevitable 'leaked' results (probably anyways)

I think it might be Arlene who'll go into nit pick mode

Scroll to the bottom. Im annoyed that the media is concentrating on the judges new role, not the fact of the Sunday show, which I think more people are annoyed about.

Well all I can say is I hope the BBC are wrong and that their ratings crash!

I do agree with you on this although, as SCD is the one programme that I really make sure I am in for, I am really disappointed that they have mucked about with the formula to such an extent that ratings may suffer.

Also, I don't know why people go on about Chris Parker so much - that was in SCD1 when no-one really knew what to make of SCD and nothing like that has happened to such an extent since.

This is an entertainment show; I don't necessarily need to see the most consistent or competent dancer, I want the excitement of watching the butterfly emerge, of seeing someone glow with the love of dance, the discovery of a talent that has lain unexplored, the .. dare I say it .. journey, and I feel that is something the judges can lose sight of - I hope I am wrong.
