I love all the dances (except the rhumba - always too 'posey') but what do the rest of you like best? Or dislike?

Probably I'm the only person on the planet who thinks VW......it takes real skill and has no gimmicks !

I have a few VW, PD, Salsa, the tango and the AT - sorry to be greedy

No, I agree. I think the VW is a beautiful dance and actually very difficult. I also love the Tango, AT, Paso and Jive. Rumba's are phenomenal when you see the best in the world do it, but don't like watching the celebs do it....yet.

Wasn't keen on VW until i was shown how to do it .

It is very difficult but feels so beautifully elegant once you get into it

Love, love, love the Paso - always look forward to that week!

Dislike - the Rumba

The rhumba is so difficult to get right for a celebrity.

Didn't Camilla say on ITT that it's the one dance that professional dancers go back to again and again to get the basics right?

It depends, if we're talking about celebs doing it then it's Quickstep and the American Smooth
But my absolute favourite dance is the rumba, when done by pros.

It would be nice to see more ballroom demos especially the tango and VW

I agree am no fan of the Rumba either - even when the professionals do it

I love the VW, the paso and the rumba.

Grrrrrr! You naughty people! I shall slap your legs!

This Rhumba I simply adore, and it's what I named myself online after.

Torvill & Dean's Rhumba Original Dance from the 1994 Olympics to History of Love. Sublime.

To watch and to dance.... definately the Jive - so much fun!

Least favourate is the [Slow] Foxtrot - that dance is EVIL! The basic is about 10 times as complicated as any other dance - can never get those heel turns.
Also find it quite dull to watch - even by the professionals.

I love the tango, jive, foxtrot to name but a few.

Like you I don't like the rhumba. I find it tedious and it doesn't seem to have anything in common with the music to which it's performed.

Good thread topic!

It's got to be the tango for me

Maybe because the music they choose for SCD is always too darned slow!

Exactly, they always choose ballads with no Latin backbeat or feel.

I love the VW, foxtrot, quickstep, tango! Usually I can't stand the Rhumba. It never seems to go quite to plan and ends up being boring and tedious to watch. How do the pros feel about the Rhumba? Do they actually enjoy dancing it? Does anyone know?

A lot of pros say the rumba is their favourite dance, but I assume that's professionally.
On DWTS it is always danced a lot faster from what I've seen
On strictly, they have created a black cloud over it. I noticed last series they only spoke about Colin's rumba (which I loved) but Denise and Jill also did very good rumbas in series 2. It doesn't help that there is no agreement from the judges as to what constitutes a good, proper rumba.
They should do a rumba masterclass like they did with the AT

I adore the quickstep and the viennese waltz (ever since dancing it in the tower ballroom) out of the ballroom dances and probably the jive in the latin.

Excellent point. As it's the hardest Latin to get right, why do they start off the series with it? Doesn't make sense.
They wouldn't start off with a Fox trot in week 1, but wait till further on in the series....well, they did on DWTS this week, but then they only do the AS version and are not in hold dancing heel turns all the way through.

I love the Jive and tango. Great to watch. I'm really not keen on the VW, although I appereciate the skill it takes to dance it.

I love the American smooth, also I loved the rhumba the russians did on the Eurovision dance contest.

I like the Tango and Paso done to "proper music"

I like the Quickstep. With good choreography and lots of nifty footwork it can be really enjoyable to watch.

I also like the Jive! Fast and fabulous (Oh god, I sound like Len!)

I don't really like the rumbas on SCD but when the pros do the rumba it's very good, but still not my favourite.

The DWTS foxtrot is very easy compared to the proper one in hold isn't it. But I do like some of them
You can't attack the rumba like other latin dances.
I hope whichever female celebs do the rumba first do a good job, I'm hopeful for Alesha.
