Hi everyone,

I've just got my first IPod (Yay) and want to purchase an album from the ITunes Store. However, there are 2 versions of it and the prices are different. I obviously don't want to pay the higher price so can anyone tell me what it's all about?

Thanks

One of them isn't a deluxe version with extra tracks/videos along with it is it?

What album are you looking at?

Hi Alex,

As far as I can tell there isn't any difference, but I may be missing something. The album is Roger Waters - Amused to Death.

Thanks.

One will be iTunes plus with DRM free and a slightly higher audio quality, one will be the standard quality with DRM locks in there (although Apple's iTunes license is pretty fair as DRM goes)

The tracks are 79p on both though. I don't understand some of the pricing sometimes either. They've got one of his other albums on there with 3 different prices.

Just go for the cheapest, it'll be fine.

I think what it is, and I've noticed it on online stores a few times is that when things are physically released you have multiple versions. In the days of vinyl you would get 7 and 12 inch etc. When they get added to music stores I imagine that in the case of back catalogue stuff they just add everything and don't always tie up the multiple versions of things. One then gets priced differently to the other although since it's digital there is not actual difference in the value of the thing. If you look they have different release dates and some tracks are a second different in length. When you're talking about millions of back catalogue tracks and albums being added to stores I doubt people are checking each one.

That's pretty much it. Even with newer releases, there are reissues and different versions of albums that have identical content - sometimes the same album cover but a different price.

Just to clarify - iTunes plus ALBUMS are priced the same as the regular one would have been. It's only single tracks that are 20p more expensive

Thanks again everyone, I ended up getting the cheaper version and it sounds fantastic and I saved myself a whopping £3
