I'm looking at buying a new TV and most of them that I've been looking at have built in Freeview tuners, however, the area in which I live currently doesn't receive Freeview.

We are due to get Sky installed in the middle of October anyway, but, just looking for some information.

If we hadn't have been getting Sky, would we still be able to receive analogue channels when the aerial was plugged into the TV that had a Freeview tuner?

Any other information would be good too.

Thanks

As far as I know all TVs still have an analogue tuner even if they have a Freeview tuner, you need to check the spec or ask the sales guy to be certain.

You can't receive analogue channels via Sky anyway so I don't understand what you mean in your 2cnd last para. You will be able to get Sky and analogue RF as well as Freeview (when available) if your TV is capable.

Assuming you keep the TV a while then you will get Freeview eventually so getting a set capable of it still makes sense.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear, I meant if, in the future if we ever decided to ditch Sky before Freeview came to our area, would we then be able to revert back to received analogue telly.

Thanks

Yes your TV will still be able to receive analogue (but please check the spec to be sure it has an analogue tuner (probably someone else can confirm they all do (except for industrial panels with no tuner)). However even if you ditched Sky you would still be able to use the dish to get many channels (including all the common ones (BBC,ITV,CH4 etc).

Are you getting Sky+? Given the removal of the £10 surcharge there doesn't seem much point going for standard Sky now.

Yes, Sky doesn't replace anything, it's just something in addition. Providing you still have equipment to receive analogue TV (e.g. TV with analogue tuner, VCR, aerial etc), they will work just as they do now, with or without Sky.

PS. Do you particularly need to subscribe to Sky's TV packages? You can get satellite TV without subscribing, it's called Freesat and gives you all the normal channels you can get with analogue.

I presume it's cheap? - you do know that Grundig went bust a number of years ago?, so this set isn't a 'Grundig', it's most likely a Beko, as the Grundig name is currently being used by a consortium of Beko and Alba.

Hi,
Do not allways take it as gospel that you cannot receive freeview, All the info on the internet told me not available in my area, I live in a large village and on driving around looking at aerials I noted hundreds pointing to the known transmitter but four were facing a different direction and horizontal as rather than vertical, I then bought a good aerial from a local shop and fitted it myself, perfect PQ and as i live in a bungalow I could not get it as high as I would have liked.
