Who will be this years teachers' pet(s)?
Last year theyfawned over Emma Bunton and before that it was Zoe Ball. So in the class of 2007 who do you think the judges will favour, I reckon it will be "look at me bending my leg over my head, Gabby Logan" or possibly Rod Stewart's Mrs. Penny (although she did seem rather nice).

It is interesting that you don't mention an of male contestants there. If there was a male contestant that was 'teachers pet' like Zoe or Emma no-one would say anything but when it is a female contestant people have a problem with it.

I do think Gabby could be a bit of a pet and Kate, possibily Letitia. But for the men perhaps Gethin?

Because Mark and especially Colin never got the inflated marks that Emma and Zoe did. Or the constant Emma worship on last years ITT.

Maybe that's because, some, of the women take their comments too personally, like Fiona Phillips, Patsy Palmer and the Dead Ringers woman who became totally hysterical by the end. They constantly slagged Peter Sch.... off last year but he just laughed it off. I reckon poor old Willie Thorn and the other folically challenged bloke are going to be in their firing line this year. |

Totally agree
Zoe and Emma could do no wrong in the judges eyes - even when they blatantly DID! (Although in Zoe's defence - she did try to tell them after one dance that she'd made a big error and the panel wouldn't listen....). Whilst they might LIKE a male contestant, (Colin , Mark, Aled) they never felt the urge to overmark them in the same way as they did the women "pets". I have a horrible feeling that as Kelly is their big name catch this year we will find that Kelly can do no wrong..... even if Brendan lifts her above his head in week 1! |

I just don't get these teacher's pet comments.
I thought Zoe was a fabulous contestant. Okay her emotional incontinence annoyed me after a while, but I absolutely loved watching her dance. She wasn't faultless - who is. I also thought Emma Bunton was very good, she seemed to receive unfairly vindictive comments for allegedly being 'full of herself', boasting etc. I never saw her do anything of that sort. I never see any of the male contestants in receipt of this kind of sl*gging off for perceived imperfections/arrogance. But I am willing to bet it will be Kelly Brook who gets a stiletto in the ribs this year whether she deserves it or not, because she is good looking, extremely fit, and high profile. |

I think Kelly and Gabby will be the teachers' pet this year.
From the preview, Gabby actually looked pretty good up her feet. I think she's doing quickstep with James. Kelly is doing Rhumba for sure, with that sultry look Brendan made her do! Mouth-to-mouth! ![]() I guess the male contestant(s) that Arlene will swoon over this year would likely be Gethin oand/r Matt (provided they don't have two left feet). ![]() ![]()

I can see Gabby or Penny being teachers pets this year although I'm very interested to see how Kelly turns out.
I can see Arlene going all gooey over Gethin. For a wild guess on who's first out, maybe Willie. |

Think it's already started to a degree - I have never seen her on anything, so have no judgement of her, but lots of snide comments on the threads already.
![]() Don't think she's doing herself any favours - she seems very competitive as opposed to enjoy it which is bound to get peoples backs up. I think a lot will be thinking in terms of Stephanie Beacham "That Gaby creature can get her leg over her head" |

Used to wear some lovely dresses but didnt offer anything else to the show imo.
Pity, I quite like her she looks like fun but I expect the judges and BBC over exposure to drive me to disliking her! ETA Agree some of her dresses were stunning! |

The women on the show seem to get a very hard time, they can't do right for doing wrong.
![]() If they don't take it seriously it's wrong, if they take it too seriously that is even worse. Whereas if the men take it seriously that is a good thing, it is just their 'competitive nature'. I don't know how the lovely Jill Halfpenny got away with it - took it very seriously and trained like a demon, yet managed to still appear to enjoy it and be a nice down to earth girl. Canny lass ![]() I'd like to see a woman win this year. |

Kelly/Gabby for the women. Haven't heard the judges fawning over any of the men yet so I'll wait and see.

mmm
Jill was popular because she worked hard, danced brilliantly and her marks reflected what the viewers actually saw.... her big rival Denise got accused of being too competitive so took a lot of the heat off Jill as well. Both of these ladies deservedly got to the final in their year and turned in fantastic performances. In contrast - what got up the noses of a lot of the GBP was the fact that Zoe and Emma DID make mistakes in their routines.... (Emma nearly falling over inthe jive but still getting 9s, Zoe mucking up something in her quickstep and the error was dismissed by the judges who gave her slightlky higher than warranted marks....), which were ignored by the judges (some of them anyway!), and marked much higher than they should have been to artificially push them up the combined leaderboard! The GBP likes to see fair play being done - and I can't help feeling that if the judges (and/ or the producers) had left both ladies well alone instead of trying to "help them along" the anti Zoe/ Emma brigade would have had nothing to complain about. Both of them were actually very good dancers - just not as good as the judges marks would have had us believe. Don't forget - we had the same phenomenon on Dancing on Ice 's 1st series where we were constantly being told how good Bonnie Langford was by the panel...... what they seemed to forget was that the show was about dancing ON ice - not being carried around OVER it by her partner! Fortunately - the public gave more credit to the celebs who actually kept their feet ON the ice and learnt to skate confidently during the run of the show (although all credit to Bonnie for carrying on afterwards and learning to skate on her own feet rather than in Matt Evers arms!). The judges may well have got the result they wanted with Zoe if they hadn't favoured her so much and alienating a huge chunk of the voting public. However - I don't think Emma would have beaten Mark in last years competition though... he was a worthy winner! |

Carol I think you're absolutely right about Denise taking the heat off Jill - it seems that every year there has to be a female contestant who is scapegoated for her "over- professionalism" and that year it was Denise.
I do sometimes wonder if, as the show goes on, the judges realise a genuinely good contestant is (for whatever reason) not popular, so in order to keep them up the leader board and out of danger, they overmark them. I think they started to do that with Zoe, who ISTR was in the bottom two quite undeservedly once or twice. The voting audience did not take to her - I wasn't mad about her constant moaning and weeping myself - but she was a genuinely talented dancer and the show would have been poorer without her. I want the most entertaining couples to continue - sometimes they are not the best dancers, and that probably annoys posters on here who are more attuned to the minutiae, are maybe themselves dancers. But most of those watching are just enjoying it as entertainment, okay a celeb may miss a step or two, but their overall performance was great to watch. I think Bonnie was lambasted for the same reason Emma was - she was thought to be 'cheating', because she was already seen as a dancer, and also committed the sin of taking it too seriously. I was pleased Gaynor won though. |

Denise was superb at Ballroom - better than Jill IMO - and Latin, and remains the best contestant never to have won. That semi-final of series 2 with Aled aswell was the best and most exciting routines ever in SCD for me - the Pasos and Tangos were stunning. ![]() BTW I'm not saying that Jill didn't deserve to win, ofcourse she did, she was truly fab, but that year the quality was neck and neck IMO, it wasn't such a runaway decision for me, though it was for the GBP who much preferred Jill.
