It would appear so, as those who watched the old series know that companions come, do their bit and then leave forever. Yes I was very glad to see Sarah Jane return as she has always been my favourite companion. But her return was a one off some 30 odd years after her departure (I'm not counting K9 and company and the 5 Doctors) and I wouldn't want her back full time.

DW move forward and always should”

I always liked Rose, but in general I agree. The series should let companions who have departed stay departed. (I was against Captain Jack's return and don't like the idea of Martha going away then coming back for that reason. Sarah Jane's return was different, as that was a one-off special and she'd been away for many, many years).

It sounds even more offensive to refer to Rose as chav scum, actually. Rose was working class and lived on a council estate, but she worked for a living and didn't commit crimes or behave like a hooligan, so why was she chav-scum? Whereas Martha was indubitably black and, while calling women "birds" is possibly irritating to some, it hardly compares with "scum" in offensiveness.

As for looks, both Billie Piper and Freema Agyeman are attractive young women in their different ways, and even if they weren't, gratuitously insulting remarks about their appearance are fairly offensive in themselves.

How about if the Doctor and Donna visited that call girl that Billie plays and they could all have a threesome...

I saw a quote where Billie said she tried to "be" Rose again one morning, looking in the bathroom mirror, and she just can't do it anymore.

It's probably not true and I sure hope it isn't. Give newer companions a chance rather than having them function under her shadow.

Assuming it is true I think it is a bad idea. We should move on with new characters, if they want a top assisstant bring back Sally Sparrow or better still Sarah Jane Smith.

Rose had her day.

Good bye & good riddance.

That said I wouldn't mind if they brought back Jackie Tyler

Rather fancied her

I think Rose returning would be a really bad idea, besides Billie is a great little actress and is doing rather well in her own right. Maybe in 6,10 or 20 years she could return as the odd assistant has in the past for a cameo or spin off series but now would be too soon.

Season finale - or SERIES FINALE?

Clearly it's been announced that there will be a Series 5 - but it's pretty obvious that it won't feature DT or RTD. So who will be the showrunner and the lead actor?

It's also no secret that Who might never have been revived had the BBC not been able to secure RTD's services. After all, how many proposals had been kicking around before his name entered the frame?

Peter Fincham may want the series to continue - but don't be so sure that the drama bosses want the same thing without their star writer at the helm ...

They already pretty much did anyway even without Rose there.

I was reading so many posts saying that all this rejection of Martha would work out in the end and the whole series was probably building up to her acceptance. Then in the final scenes we pretty much see The Doctor non plussed at her leaving.

Martha was not only ousted to promote the sentiment of how wonderful Rose was, she appears to have also been ousted in order to favour the reintroduction of Catherine Tate.

Then there's RTD criticising 'Primeval' for not being 'black' enough because it doesn't have any main black characters.
But in hindsight that sounds pretty hypocritical and pompous considering that Martha appears to have been treated as merely a token black character who has to make way for a new white companion.

to add insult to the blow she was demoted to Torchwood...

Martha was never treated as a 'token black character'. Don't be ridiculous. IMO one reason she's been 'ousted' off the show is that series 2 suffered from the Doctor and Rose being in too happy a situation. The best episodes were when they were mostly split up like in The Girl In The Fireplace.

If Martha stayed now and everything was all nicey nice we would be in the same situation. It was good that she decided to 'get out', that they weren't forced apart, that the Doctor didn't leave her behind. After all that she'd been through you couldn't blame her.

Besides, she IS coming back! And she's going to be in 3 episodes of Torchwood before that. So you can't say she's been ousted.

well by not killing Rose, off the door was left open for a return so it would not supprise me at all if she comes back.

I think its true. Kinda ties in with the three specials, and the way the Davies has constantly had the Dr reference Rose continuously. Seems like a story arc thats been kept quiet.

Hehe.

Or Rose wakes up and realises it was aaaall a dream.

I really don't want Rose to come back. I agree with Performingmonk, Rose and the Doc were too nicey nice in season 2; best example is the crappy "Fear Her".

i wonder if this story might unfold through torchwood with a few rumours about mickey appearing...
it would be nice to see jackie again aswell and i dont care what anyone says i like rose and dont see a problem in a few cameo appearances if the story is told right.

Oh God no. Rose had her day. She was just a strain to watch, especially in her final episodes, starting from "Fear Her".

Martha was a breath of fresh air. To be honest it was her introduction (beautifully done) that got me into Doctor Who.

Although I don't think the story is untrue. I mean, the three specials are obviously leading up to DT's regeneration. Seems Martha and Donna are just "filler" companions.

Also I think Freema got a pretty good deal. I mean the character of Martha could have just not come back. Ever. But now she's been given the chance to be in two successful shows set in the Whoniverse.

I for one will be extremely annoyed if she comes back
Its not that I dont like rose because I did like her but at the end of the day if she comes back it will spoil the whole emotion felt within the last 2 episodes of series two and will make everything just very very pointless!!

Hey maybe they are getting Chris E back as well?

What if these three specials actually feature three Doctors but combine into an overall story?

Special one features Doc#8 and Lucie Miller, then we get Doc#9 and Rose and finally Doc#10 and Martha/Donna.

Billie would get a chance to come back as Rose but as it would be an "unseen" Ninth Doctor story it would not negate her leaving scene in Doomsday.

Excellent points! Totally agree.

If Rose were to return I would hope that her character will be entirely different to the Rose we saw in Series 2. It would be soul destroying for Tennant and Piper to go back to that smug relationship RTD gave them for that entire series.

If Piper is offered enough money I can't see her turning down the offer to return. But Rose had her exit - and a pretty big one at that. Why destroy that by bringing her back?

I suppose if Hollywood doesn't show an interest and the work dries up it's possible.

God.

Apparently Adele Silver wants shot at the assistant role too.

Dear God.

Murder her in the most violent manner possible so as to ensure that there's not a chance in hell she's coming back.

It's the only way to kill the endless speculation. Call it a mercy killing. It's for the best.”

That's brought the scene in The Rocky Horror Picture Show when Frank kills Eddie to mind. "It was a mercy killing...".

Now there's a thought - Doctor Who battles the Frank-N-Furters.

Adlee (Presidential front-rnner) Stevenson (Adele Silver) does have a sleazy sexiness that I think the dads watching would like enormously.

thats the only way i can see the return of Rose working, i dont want her to come back after apparently being sealed away forever.
