If you like Radiohead then you're luck is in, my friends! They've just sneakily announced official details of their new record (entitled 'In Rainbows') which comes out as a digital download in ten, yes that's TEN DAYS TIME (10th October)!!

Check http://www.radiohead.com if you don't believe me.

Tracklist for the digital download (10th October) is -

15 STEP
BODYSNATCHERS
NUDE
WEIRD FISHES/ARPEGGI
ALL I NEED
FAUST ARP
RECKONER
HOUSE OF CARDS
JIGSAW FALLING INTO PLACE
VIDEOTAPE

This can be pre-ordered on the site. You can also pre-order the physical release (CD/vinyl) which comes out in December. This includes the tracks above on CD1 plus -

CD2

MK 1
DOWN IS THE NEW UP
GO SLOWLY
MK 2
LAST FLOWERS
UP ON THE LADDER
BANGERS AND MASH
4 MINUTE WARNING

This is a sort of enhanced EP with digital artwork on it. You can pre-order the physical release from Radiohead's site (in a special boxset that also includes 2 vinyl discs!), or just the digital release which you'll be able to download on 10th October.

This is such major news, coming out with this just ten days before it's released! It's so much to take in I want to scream with happiness!!! Radiohead prove once again how insanely wonderful they are.

It has certainly been a very exciting morning - I wonder how this will change the face of music publishing?

Have you noticed the prices?

Discbox = £40

Download = £ it's up to you

So you choose the price for the digital download yourself. You could buy the album for 1p if you want.

Certainly an interesting way of doing it .

No-one knows yet. However, it is unlikely to contain any DRM, so an MS-only WMA format can probably be ruled out (the band are fond of Apple Macs so wouldn't do anything Windows specific).

As people are paying for this in advance, my bet is it will be a high-quality VBR MP3.

A standardised codec like AAC would be nice. As long as it has no DRM (I doubt it will) and isn't proprietary (I can live with MP3 though) I don't mind.

I'm expecting something like 192kbps mp3 files for the download, nothing more than that. After all, it's FREE! Details will be coming in the next few days I imagine.

You've got to applaud them for doing this. They KNOW loads of people would be downloading it for free anyway, so why shouldn't they take charge of it themselves? My guess is that they've had difficulty coming up with a good new deal with EMI so they've taken matters into their own hands. We have heard March as a rumoured release time for the CD, maybe that's when it will be put out on the EMI label, with singles etc. That's just for the plebs though, for the real fans the time is NOW!

Well that's a big two fingers to the record company. The band are taking a big risk, allowing the public to decide how much to buy the album for, although I imagine quite a few will be tempted to buy the lavish box set and the band are no doubt aware of the appeal of limited edition packaging (the library book design for "Amnesiac" and the fold-out map on "Hail To the Thief" for example.)

I just hope we get some good songs and not too much sonic experimentation.

I think we will. Thom got some experimentation out of his system with his 'The Eraser' solo album last year. I have live bootlegs of most of the new songs and they really are superb.

This is amazing news, totally out of the blue. And to think just yesterday everyone was thinking it wouldn't be out until next March!

Need some experimentation- there's no point in standing still. This release shows they're still a forwards thinking group

I don't think they have a record company since HOTF ????

Agree about getting some good songs. HOTF was a fantastic album and I hope for more of the same although as it's Radiohead that's unlikely.

I hope they sort out their website before the 10th though, seems to be very slow at the moment. Struggling under all of the increased traffic.

Free for some. I gave them £10, so a choice of formats would be nice.

You'd have to pay me to buy or download anything by them. Worst group ever.

Yes, worst group ever, that's why "OK Computer" came top in a 2005 Channel 4 Best Album of All Time poll, 4th in the NME All Time Top 100 Albums poll and featured in Time magazine's Top 100 Albums of All Time list and "The Bends" featured in the Observer's 50 Albums That Changed Music list etc. etc.
