He's only due to appear briefly in this series, as he's getting his own cartoon spin off. In the pilot episode, SJ spoke to the tin dog via a videolink. through her computer. He was investigating some anomaly around a black hole. In last week's episode, SJ did mention that he was still away doing some investigations' for her.

episode 2 was transmitted yesterday on BBC1 and episode 3 went out immediately afterwards on the CBBC channel.

That's what I was thinking. I wonder which incarnation it could have been! That was great, the way the old lady was rambling and then just dropped in the name and suddenly Sarah Jane's ears pricked up. And then the touching way SJ realised she could be just like her in a couple of decades, alone and with no one believing her. Excellent.
