Best use of computer graphics?

For me it is more interesting to discuss the use of computer graphics in the proper series as it was new and unusual back then.

My fave computer graphcis are when the Tardis is pulled into the Maelstrom tractor beam at the beginning of the Trials of the Timelords.

The McCoy opening credits were a bit closty however.

I agree, that was a very impressive shot. I think I heard in one of the extras on some DVD that they spent a lot of their budget on that shot, just to make sure the season started with a bang.

That was a model shot rather than computer graphics.

I may be missing something but have they redone some scenes of the classic show with computer graphics for special rereleases of some DVDs or something?

Yes, most recently on the 'Time Warrior' DVD. Only a few scenes are re-done with CGI, but they do look impressive.

Its interesting to see the difference between the giant vampire coming to life in State of Decay, and the giant Beast in The Satan Pit. You can really see how things have progressed in the visual effects department - although the giant vampire was very scarey at the time.

I guess I would have to say that a few special effects do stand out for me from the classic series.

the original time-scoop effect in Five Doctors seemed very good, at the time
the opening shot in Trial of a Timelord
the hand coming alive in Hand of Fear was pretty good
Interesting ur still going on about 'the proper series' im sure the majority of who fans would agree new who is as much part of the proper series, sorry dervish it just irritates me the way you feel the need in every post to state that new who is rubbish WE ALL know your view on it, so please please stop going on about it like some spoiled, huffed 2 year old !!!

But back to the question i cant really much of the old series but yeah the computer effects were good, but really due to budget they were never done like on the scale of some of the higher budget programs

New Who as a whole is not rubbish - at least 7 episodes are excellent and many others are decent.

As, I think that someone else has pointed out, that was brilliant model work rather than computer graphics. Computer graphics were not only very expensive but very much in their infancy when original Doctor Who was being made.

I would have to agree seome episodes are great and 1 or 2 dreadful, it just seems in general that you dont like new who and dont seem to see it as the proper series which obviously it is, new who is different but not radically so, its just be modernised a bit.
and new who hopefully has many years left in it ur saying you feel 7 epidsodes were excellent and many decent, take 3 different years of the classic series watch them and see if you can say that there is a a year which has much more than 7 excellent storys and a only a few decent, you get my point new who is still in its infancy, hopefully it will stay for many years to come actors will leave, production teams will change so episodes will be piss poor and some excellent just the same as the classic series.

"infantile" more like.

And also is there any need for foul language?

Congratulations, you're becoming predictable and boring. Perhaps it's time for a new hook?
