I just saw Time Warrior this week and it was great. The Sontarans are terrific bad guys - I wonder if they will explain why they are so similar to the Judoon?

Acording to his profile, a tiny 5ft 0in.

Aww...

One thing that is interesting about the Sontarans is that their costumes/masks became progressively less believable with each appearance, rather than progressively better.

Lynx in Time Warrior is just superb, but they looked pretty shoddy by the time Invasion of Time came about, and in the Two Doctors they were really poor.

The clever answer to this is due to the cloning process.
Since a copy of a copy is never as good as the original, through successive generations their DNA has become corrupted making them appear worse.

In truth sadly its because the BBC slowly wittled away the funding until I started to wonder whether they would start making the costumes out of toilet roll and sticky backed plastic a la Blue Peter.......

Be interesting to see if they get a redesign as anything is possible in genetic engineering!

Christopher Ryan is a bit small to be playing a Sontaran isn't he?

Well, I hope they get a major make-over because - from that photo - they look totally laughable.

They were always supposed to be 'squat', although this varied depending on the actors who were playing them.

I imagine their height is now going to be an official part of their appearance.

That, I think, is either one of the crap masks from Two Doctors, or its from a Doctor Who exhibition. Here's Lynx.

The photo is Styke from The Two Doctors, I believe...

Let's just hope they don't try to invade earth again only to find out that a few minuets in to a fight they get out of breath then have to go and 're charge' al- la The Sontaran Experiment. Not exactly warrior material.
Maybe they should have realised this earlier instead of doing dumb experiments like testing the strength of the human chest by placing weights on it.

Looking forward to them returning.

Were they? Okay fair enough.

Maybe it's a deliberate intention for them to be around that size.

Does anybody remember if The Sontarans were any cop as an enemy, or was it all about the image?

imho they started out well but with each appearance what menace they had deteriorated in the scripts and as many have pointed out the masks were not up to much either.

I wonder if RTD will be writing these episodes as an ironic allegory.

They were pretty nasty. They did once successfully invade Gallifrey too.

I wonder if they will be suffering in some way because of the Time War.......

Agreed kind of makes me believe this rumour has no truth to it at all.

As much as I hate to admit it, The Sun usually gets Doctor Who rumours spot on!

I still wish it were the Zygons, though . . ..

Sontarans had devolved into the Eastenders Mitchell brothers by the time DW went on hiatus in '89
