I need a little help and advice and possibly a slap around the chops

My contract is due to run out on the 7th November, so have been in contact with T-mobile retentions/cancellations. I was under the firm stance that I was wanting to go onto PAYG as I'm not using my mobile as much as I was (been off work for 14 months) Having told them this, they have offered me a new contract, under the same terms and conditions (essentially, the Flext 20 - £34 call credit) for £10 per month for 18 months.

Now, don't get me wrong it sounds like a very good offer, but i'm not so sure I want to be tied to another 18 month contract. But then again, the cost to revert over to PAYG is quite substantial (£10 would get me 67 minutes on the everyone PP, compared to 175 minutes for £10 on the 18 month contract

Having been around the shops yesterday to see whats available, the next best offer I've seen is Three (they were the next cheapest in terms of price per month) However, my main concern with them is the fact I went in there asking questions and was made to feel like I knew more about phones/new technologies in handsets than what they did!!!

Can anyone please help me make a decision - offer other alternatives if you can, as I nee dto be contacting T mobile before sunday to let them know what i want to do.

They have an upgrade offer on at the moment, Keep your current handset and recieve a £10 credit to your account every month meaning your line rental will be £10 for 12 months.

This is why I dont take out 18 month contracts, you get better value deals, but you are chained in for a much longer period.

They also get shirty if you want to change to a 12. They say you have to change your telephone number if you want to change.

If they say that, then I will be asking for my PAC code, as I have had my number for over 5 years now, and its a very good number (last 6 are 282820)

As a company you dont have to alter anything at all to change your tariff to a 12 month option, whether an agent has told you that as it may affect their bonus is another question

OOoooohh, Im gonna spend all night figuring out the beginning digits....

Only kidding

dangermouse1986 you are probably right, this all happened in the T-Mobile store on Market Street in Manchester.
They were adamant that the number would be lost of the contract was changed, and what was even worse, it wasnt even a THEIR contract number, it was a PAYG sim that was converted to contract so the number wasnt even 'theirs' in the 1st place.

well, after another 20 minute phone call with T mobile, I was offered something completely different - even though i said I use my mobile any time of the day and to every network, they offered me u fix OFF PEAK with 300 O/P mins and a 40ppm charge for peak rate calls!!! What a joke. ANother one that was offered was the u fix 50, which is 50 minutes and 25 texts for £10. Now i worked out, that if i was on the everyone price plan i could get the same amount of minutes and texts for £10, and not be tied into a 12 month contract.

And the offer i was made in a call last week (same contract at half price) was not even noted on the file, so I was made to feel like i was lying. I also asked about the sim 20 price plan, which is thr rolling type contract, was told if i want that i would have to pay full price, NO reductions whatsoever!!

I could go to Three and get a new phone, 300 mins and 300 texts for £15 per month (yes I know it an 18 month contract, but thats not the point!)

I myself am anti any 18 month contract , ask them what they are prepared to offer you for a 12 month contract as you want to be cautious due to your personal circumstances

I had a fantastic Virgin number 868686** it as lay unused with 4p credit on it

I am having it ported this Friday , (so no calls until then please , max C )to my new 02 12 month tariff and I haven't used the number in years

the only problem i have with moving networks is the fact that i bought a new handset in the last 2 months which is locked to t mobile, and will cost me £20 to unlock to take elsewhere. not happy at the moment.

Also, if you are on t mob payg and decide to buy an new phone which is topped up by the retailer, did you know t mobile will not transfer it to your existing number!!! Vodafone used to reward you for upgrading your handset, and make it very easy to swap old number onto the new phone and merge credit balences, it seems t mobile are out to make life very difficult for their clients

It's strange I renewed with T-Mobile back in may and they offered me Flext 25 on 12mth for 11 quid a month. I was like I don't want that I want an 18 month contract on flext 20, apparently due to me being on Freetime 750 (a very old price plan) and that being on 12 months I couldn't swap across, anyway I continued within the Freetime 750 getting it absolutely gratis and they threw in a free phone, so its like I got a free mobile from them as well as free line rental......

6 Days down the line I decided I wasn't happen with the planned and said I would leave if I didn't get on the Flext 20 on 18 mth, I got my way now am paying £6 a month for it and a free phone. Bargain when I think about it, it's my secondary line or when I run out of allowance on my main mobile (which is rare).

Good deal I say, ya see like any company if they want your business they will do their utmost to keep it, a lot of people are foolish when they renew and take the first offer thrown at them and then realise it isn't as competitive. No matter what the initial outlay it's far cheaper or a company to keep a customer than to recruit a new one. So make them work for your custom, you owe them no loyalty, it's the other way round the company owes you loyalty for you being a customer.

I agree with the last comment about the network owes us the customer the loyalty, so I'm gonna go back on the phone for a 3rd time and see what they will offer - this time I will see what they will give me if i request a new phone as well as everything i have been offered is based on new contract only (no new handset - I have had 5 different handsets in the last 17 months of my contract) I would like one of their new sim 20 contracts, but not prepared to pay £20 considering the amount ive spent on this contract in the last 17 months!!!!

Make them work or your money mate, you tell em O2 if offering you something better (they most likely are....) and they should cave to a reasonable degree.

It is impossible to give you a discount on a no commitment tarriff...if you say you want the sim free deal, thats not a contract therefore it is not a renewal...they reward you in advance for 12/18 months @ a certain amount of discount. Now if they agree to 18 months at £10 per month then 3 months later you decide to end your sim free deal then it defeats the whole point of you having discount and Tmobile 'retaining' you.

well, the writing is on the wall - it looks like i'm leaving t mobile after all. To a different network or T-Mob PAYG I still havent decided.

I went back on the phone to the retentions team earlier this evening, explained the situation again, and asked for their best deal. Initially i was offered the same contract (flext 20) for £15 and no phone - explained i was sitting in front of my computer and could see that i could, if i waned to, sign upto a new contract as a new customer, for the same price with a new phone. the guy went to his manager who then came back and said i could have the same 18 month contract, again no new phone, but for £13 PER MONTH - what a joke!!! I told him i was offered £10 per month for 18 months just over a week and a half ago, and was politely told that I wouldnt get it as their are no notes on my account to say who offered it and when!!! NOT IMPRESSED.

I said I could do better going onto Three, to which he replied they (being three mobile) have clauses in their contracts to allow them to change your price plan without notice, and i would be better off staying with them - felt like telling him where to go, but i held my tongue and asked for my PAC code> I will take my money to a network who wants to give a damn about me!!!!

Anyone suggest a decent handset on three which isnt gonna cost the earth?

My son got the K800i for free on three and bought a 2GB card

http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/4...B/Product.html

Now he is sorted for minutes a decent camera and music on his phone

But it is an 18 month contract

Or are you thinking of PAYG on Three ? If yes , ignore me

it looks like if i go onto a different network, yes it will be another contract - there isnt any financial sense for me to do anything other than that - i use on average 160 minutes per month, so wold cost more than that.

My only concern is that i have just bought this lovely nokia 6300 after a few weeks deliberating on the purchase, only now to be in a situation whereby i now have to find another handset (do you know what i mean by that?)

And yes, I had noticed the K800i, I was looking at that handset a while back, it still looks very good, upto date. one question for you though, I know it has the a2dp (bluetooth stereo headset function) does it allow the buttons on the headset to control the media player built in? (could i move the tracks forward and back, volume up and down, playing/pausing/stopping tracks? I cant seem to find this information online, and well the Three stores staff are about as useful as a chocolate fireguard when it comes to information!!!

Virgin Sim only very similar to the o2 one, and i'm pretty sure a T-Mobile locked phone will accept a Virgin Sim due to sharing the network etc. Means you don't need to unlock it and get the benefit of the mins/texts

when i get back to liverpool I will g to the local virgin store and ask to use one of their test sims to see fi it will work in my phone - if it does, then i will consider one of their sim only tariffs. if they don't do a sim only tariff, I will look at taking one of their handsets and selling it on, s i quite like my 6300
