Who would you bring back, and how?

If an old companion was to return in the new series of Doctor Who, who would it be and how would you have them return? If you take part in this thread, could you also say how old you are (even the ladies!) as I think this would help put your reply in context.

I'm 37 and for me, having just seen an interview with Nicola Bryant, I would love to see Peri return. I think Peri’s tale is significantly different to Sarah Jane’s to make the story very different.

Not only did the Doctor abandon Peri (albeit against his will, kidnapped – as he was – by the Timelords), he left her in the clutches of murderous scientist, in the far future on a different planet. At first he believed she had been killed, and then found out she had in fact been rescued by the warrior king Yrcanos and became his Queen on Thoros Alpha. And yet, as far as we know, even when The Doctor was freed by the Time Lords he never returned to collect her.

I think this would make a very interesting story. At least Sarah got to return to her own life. Peri wasn’t given the option of returning home. It would be interesting to see how she would react to seeing the Doctor again, and how Peri’s fate might impact on his relationship with Donna/Martha.

I would like to suggest Tegan. I thought the way she left was rather contrived and kind of shoved in at the end of Resurrection and didn't do the character any justice at all. There was a chemistry between The Doctor and her which went unspoken except for the constant sparring but perhaps that was the only way they could show that there were feelings there.

Anyway perhaps a story showing the consequences of travelling with The Doctor doesn't always end well. Big Finish did a story where Tegan ends up with a brain tumour. Not suggesting they go down that road but perhaps another reappearance of the Mara or Tegan having some kind of breakdown and going from institution to the next with no-one believing her...

Peri all the way for me.

1) Ian. I read on another forum, or possibly this, of a scenario where the Doc visits Barbara's grave and bumps into Ian. Cue reminicences, and a talkie episode like those old Play for Todays, or those Double Header Eastender eps with Dot and Ethel. They could ruminate on the nature of Time Travel and mortality, and end with Ian passing away, content that he's met hi sold friend one more time.

2) Nyssa. Last seen on a hospital ship looking after lepers. I'm sure their paths could cross again, with a parable stylee based on AIDS or summit. Haven't really thought that one through, but really fancy Sarah Sutton.

3) The Brig. Nick Courtney won't be around for ever and deserves a big send off.

4) Ace. See 2)

5) Romana. After all "YANA"

BTW I am 38 and my 1st Doctor was Jon Pertwee, but MY doc is Tom Baker.

I thought that would make quite a good Torchwood story (and I know what a big Torchwood fan you are, BG!). In the Big Finish story
Spoiler
she's dying from an alien tumour and rejects the Doctor's offer of help
and I thought this could result in a huge Mara attack on Earth. It would be great with today's CGI to have a giant snake eating the inhabitants of Wales with Captain Jack trying to use his charm on Tegan.

Susan.
Would love to see that can-of-worms opened...
Was she really his grandaughter or just a Gallifreyan, or Timelord, or a human the Doctor rescued along the way?
What does she know about the Doctor's earlier life?
How did she feel about the Doctor leaving her behind?

I'd like to see them bring back Bonnie Langford just to sit back and watch people on here get all over excited.

Actually it'd be Ace, and I'm 31.

she would eat Jack alive. he wouldn't stand a chance.

still think Tegan rejecting his help would make a more powerful Who episode.

It's a good bet the Brig will appear in S4.

Maybe we'll be more likely to see him in the SJA, if he carries on being name-checked in that show.

I would like to see adric back, just for one episode.

Adric gets rescued by one of the David Tenant doctors, and he is taken home to his people

Nopey. Mainly because it would be a "missed trick" if he didn't appear. Anybody who would consider themselves "a fan", and in charge of making the show, certainly wouldn't dismiss the option. If anything, they'd do their best to make it happen. For so many reasons.

Brig/Doc banter, gags, friendship, loyalty, and finally giving his life to save the Doc - who wouldn't want to write that encounter? Sure DT would want to play it too, which means if it's going to happen, it'll more than likely be in S4.

The Doctor is then executed for crimes against Alzariuns.

It would have to be Ace for me too.

Only because she was the only companion I remember from the first time round. (24)

Have no clue how I would bring her back though....

I'd like to see qite a few back!

Ace - so we can see what happened to her as she never got a leaving story

Tegan - also because I've listened to the Big Finsh audio play as mentioned higher in the thread, and have previously discussed on here at the time that I thought it was a good idea it turned out the tumour was something to do with Mara still being in Tegan's head - I realise the plays may not be seen as 'canon', but it certainly is a possiblility in any event that the mara has remained in her head in some form or other,

Adric - In that, in theory, he COULD have survived, if a future Doctor had materilized seconds after we last saw him looking all angst on the bridge of the ship - albeit that the doctor did not plan this, but it just a random materilisation of the TARDIS (However Matthew Waterhouse is looking a bit old now!)

Romana - mostly because it would be interesting to see how she would come back in that as far as the written adventures go and the audio plays, she ended up back on Gallifrey as President - however, we don't necessarily see these as 'canon' - so as far as Dr Who on tV is she still in E-Space and was never involved in the time war?

Mel - (Forgive me!!) just because I thought it was such a stupid way to leave! As if she would choose to go off with Glitz like that, and as if he was going to get her back to Earth! Wasn't dragonfire set in the far future anyway so she wouldn't even be going back to her own time??

Peri - for the reasons mullett gave at the start of this thread

2) Sarah Sutton still looks good.

3) If you bring back the Brig you'd have to bring back Yates and Benton as well

Lol! I agree! I saw "Dragonfire" for the first time the other day and was appalled at how casual her departure was and how Ace was just installed in as a replacement straight away for no good reason (at least, that we knew of at the time!).

A bit of topic, but having just watched The Time Meddler, I think the Monk would make a good companion, in a 'dodgy, Dr. Smith from Lost in Space' kind of way.
