Hi,

I bought a Panasonic DVD Recorder with a Hard Drive (80BGB I think) about 2 and a half years ago - sorry I don't have the exact model number to hand. The HDD is fine, but the DVD player/recorder is having problems with DVD-Rs.

In the last year its been having problems recognising Maxell DVD-Rs, so I switched to Verbatim, which seemed to be slightly better for a little while. It would recognise that the Maxell ones had been inserted, would try to read them, and then come back with an error message.

The problem now is that it will try read DVD-Rs, of either manufacturer, then won't be able to recognise them - coming up with a "NO READ" error message.

I find this strange as it has no problem with any normal DVDs or DVD-RAMs, which suggested to me that it wasn't a problem with the laser.

Can anyone suggest what might be the problem?

Thanks.

sounds like it might be on it's way out,i got the same message with dvd-r on a panasonic recorder after 2 1/2 to 3 years, eventually it would only play 20% of any discs i put in,i tried at least 80 dvds in it one day, barely any of them worked, every one of them used to work in the panasonic.
i know with my pioneer i can take the drive apart and clean the lens as it is little more than a standard 109 dvd rewriter used in pcs,the panasonic drive was more tricky and harder to access the lens
