I'm not sure if this is old hat, but Richer Sounds are selling this unit LG BH100. Are there any other players around that play both formats?

Mike.

There are a number of combi players due soon including an upgrade to the LG and the Sammy BD-UP5000.

With combi players you just have to make sure the machine fully complies with the spec for each format (Profile 2 and HDi) otherwise like the original LG BH100 you have a player that doesn't supporting features that the cheapest HD DVD player does.

Prices are still high as you would expect for the low volume so there it is still possible to buy two standalones that are cheaper than a combi but hopefully the difference will vanish as more models come on line.

Thanks Jarrak - very helpful. I thought there would be a reason why the BH100 was so cheap (600 pounds).

lg just unveiled its 2nd gen 'super blu' player BH200, dont know what is different to bh100, but glance spec of this on;

1080p, at 24, 30 or 60 fps, mpeg2, vc1, h.264 video, mpeg1/2 audio, dolby dig, dts-hd audio, hdmi 1.3, and the rest

possibly why you have seen the bh100 cheaper

Samsung have delayed the release of their dual format player in the UK until early next year. The added competition should put the squeeze on price though.

Does anybody know if the Samsung BD-UP5000 will be hackable for multi-region for standard dvds?
