Get your mobile number listed on the Telephone Preference Service. Then if they still cold-call you they're breaking the law and you could report them.

They probably have absolutely no idea who you are or what your phone number is. Or even if the number they are calling actually exists!

When you get this type of call 9 times out of 10 it is an automated system ringing random numbers, or just a sequence of numbers. The automated dialler just dials out and if someone answers it attempts to connect the call to (usually) a sales rep. If there is no rep free it just dumps the call and moves on to the next poor sod to get a cold call.

Using TPS can reduce the number of calls you get like this. And gives you a path to complain should you continue to receive such calls. But of course it all relies on the company doing the cold calling bothering to pass the numbers it dials through a filter to remove TPS registered ones. And if they are based overseas then TPS registration won't help anyway.

Then again it is free and certainly reduced the number of unwanted calls I get to virtually zero.

If you've not had the number that long then it could be that they are trying to contact a previous user of your number.
