Unfair treatment of Clare Tomlinson
If Charles Sale is right and she cancelled her trip to cyprus to see spurs over the bywater incident I think it is really poor. It's not her fault he mouthed off and to blame her is wrong. The producers who apparently stayed silent are at fault.

Eh??
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I think a bit more explanation is needed - who is Clare Tomlinson? And if it is about Spurs, should this not be in the Sport section of the forum?? |

I concur!
And whats the Bywater incident? However I have just found this (clicky) which may give a clue to who Clare Tomlinson is! Why would someone from Sky go to see the Spurs game in Cyprus when it was Five who had the rights? I'm really confused now!

I'm intrigued about this bywater incident. A google search comes up with a Stephen Bywater who plays football it seems.

So, she was disciplined by Sky for doing something that she shouldn't have?

So this thread in the BROADCASTING section is all about a nondescript Sky Sports "presenter" who could not go on a jolly to the Med to watch a pointless football match, because some footballer with no brains gets regular bouts of Tourettes?
Great.

Why is it bizarre that she worked for Arsenal but supports Spurs ? Does that mean she was only allowed to get a job at Spurs (perhaps there wasn't a job available).Does that mean hacks working for the Daily Mail can't read any other newspaper. What a load of old claptrap.

Whatever this is all about, if Clare T is not happy at Sky she can leave then she can join Setanta Sports.
Like Kelly Dalglish, she'll be Sky's loss & Setanta's (& Virgin) gain.

taken form Daily Mail web site:
Wakeling spells it out There is a major inquest going on at Sky Sports over the Goals on Sunday programme, in which Derby goalkeeper Stephen Bywater spelt out the C word during the live show. Sky supremo Vic Wakeling is furious about the way the incident was handled on air by presenters Chris Kamara and Clare Tomlinson, who let Bywater's unacceptable obscenity pass without comment. Nor were the pair given any advice on what to do by the programme's producers after Bywater's serious lapse in taste as he tried to describe advice passed on to him by the late Les Sealey when he was Bywater's goalkeeping coach at West Ham. Wakeling is taking the matter so seriously that heads might roll on and off the screen. A belated apology was given on last Sunday's programme. |

I think perhaps the producers should be held to account....the presenters have a tough job holding things together in these situations, the producers should be ready and able to instruct the presenters if any incident occurs.
However I didn't see the incident so couldn't possibly comment

I think I must be the only one that saw it happen live, here's a quick run through:
Bywater, the Derby goalkeeper was talking about his goalkeeping coach and what advice he gave him. He said something like "He told me to be a good professional and not to act like a....then he paused for a bit and then spelt out C U N T" The presenters looked shocked and quickly moved on. It was Bywaters fault for being so thick, surely if you are on live on TV at 11am you know you can't say things like that. He was shown up for being a real thicko, if anything it should be Bywater that gets a slap on the wirsts. |

It does sound like Bywater was being absolutely stupid, but if Tomlinson and Kamara didn't have the nous to immediately apologise, somebody behind the scenes should have. I'm sure Rob McCaffrey would have handled it better.
Btw, why isn't Kamara in hot water as well? |
