So, does anyone actual make 3G video calls?
I haven't yet got a 3G phone, but my wife has. If I get one, am I ever going to make a video call? The vodafone website doesn't actually say how much they cost, but I guess they don't come out of the inclusive minutes.
Does anyone regularly make video calls? |

That's part of the reason why 3 is sinking. They quite wrongly believed that people would go for MMS and video calling in a big way. They didn't. Those expensive 3g licences the networks shelled out big bucks for aren't looking like such a good move now, are they 3? |

The networks have realised that video calling is not a big draw. This is why they have moved to promoting mobile internet, which so far has been more successfull for them.
So far no-one has been able to sell video calling in this country, stretching back to the video phones sold in the late 80s. It sounds like an exciting technology until you use it. Can you imagine video marketing calls? Where the salesman can see your home. Or the mother in-law commenting on how scruffy you look! |

3G isnt just for video calls, its also used for high speed internet access so i would say yes it does benefit the networks because without that it would be harder to promote mobile internet.

I've never used video call. I've never really felt the need... The cost of it is also puts me off.
I suppose it could be made a success if the call cost were reduced, it might tempt people to use it a little bit more. As for MMS I've used it ever now and then but again its flawed, in the sense that when I send one off to somebody in another country, they either don't receive it or they receive a link to which they have to access a computer and punch it in to view the mms!! That just sucks. I do like mobile internet and make use of it and suspect it will take off quite well once data charges improve (some of the deals available aren't too bad). |
