Gethin's accent?

Can't say I'm a fan of Blue Peter but I remember seeing an episode a while ago and as far as I remember he had a really broad welsh accent. Heard him on his video intro tonight and his accent seemed very.....cockney? Does he put on the Welshness for BP? Or was he deliberately trying to hide it tonight?

I'm Welsh and I noticed his accent wasn't very pronounced but if you listen carefully you can still pick it up.

But which is his real one? Was he deliberately doing it for the interview or does he put it on for BP to be the token Welsh guy?

I thought he sounded quite welsh tonight but I've never seen or heard him before so don't know what his "normal" accent sounds like..

Oh for goodness' sake !
Gethin Jones is a Welsh speaker, Cardiff born and bred .He attended Cardiff's largest Welsh medium comprehensive , Ysgol Gyfun Glantaf , the same school as Ioan Grufudd and Matthew Rhys .

Welsh is his first language . He has lived and worked in London for some time , the accent is bound to be less pronounced if he is not using his Welsh and believe me , you wouldn't want to hear a broad Karediff accent !
Fortunately he has never had one .

We don't all sound like some sort of cartoon Taffy .

Sorry but I don't see where I ever said that? I'm quite aware not everyone has a broad accent and that his accent would have changed over time living in London.

The point I was making was his accent tonight sounded VERY "londonish" compared to last time when I heard him on Blue Peter when it was strongly Welsh.

I agree - I am Welsh and noticed he didn't sound very Welsh tonight - but as I said if you listened carefully I could pick it up and actually he sounded quite Cardiff at times (nothing wrong with that)
