Wasn't sure if I should post this in here or the Print section but as it's music related I chose here.

Today's Observer is giving away a DVD copy of Stop Making Sense, which is an all time classic. Directed by Jonathan Demme it really shows how concert films should be made. No whizzy effects, no irritating cuts every 4 seconds, no gratuitous, pointless shots of the audience. Just the stage, the band and the music.

Even if you aren't a Talking Heads fan it's woerth watching to see how it should be done. And the music really is great too.

I love that film/album, I prefer almost all the versions to the ones on the studio albums.

And I agree, it's the perfect example of how simple a show can be and yet still be hugely effective (just as ZooTV was the perfect example of how to really do a stadium show).

The way SMS builds up from just him onstage to everybody is great. You can really feel the energy coming off them, plus they look like they're having such a good time.

Yes, cracking vid/songs.
David Byrne's big suit immediately springs to mind.

Wish they had given away True Stories instead. Now that is a brilliant Talking Heads movie.

That is also a brilliant film, I agree. Still have the Love For Sale video really clear in myy mind. Who'd have thought John Goodman would go on to such huge things!
