HI

I switched to o2 from Vodafone 19 months ago as I was using my mobile as a modem in order to send the odd essential email from my laptop and 0845 calls were taken from my bundled minutes by o2 but charged by vodafone.
I upgraded in August and just received my October bill which included a £20 charge to cover 0845 calls - o2 change their pricing and now charge 20/min for 0845 calls.

I can't afford this level of charge and was wondering if anyone has any experiences of using usb modems and the cheapest way of getting one.
I have checked all the mobile provider websites and they are so complicated.
My bill came to £20 as when I first logged on, I would remain logged on until I had sent the last of three or four emails and with so many minutes available it wasn't a problem.

Thanks

It sounds like you were using your laptop to send the emails via 'CSD' - or 'Dial-Up' if you will.

Most people now use GPRS or 3G - this is a different method of doing things where you don't get charged for how long you are online, but for how much data you actually use instead.

Most of the Networks now offer unlimited data tariffs (with fair usage). On Vodafone, you can pay £7.50 for a Mobile Internet add-on which allows you around 120Mb of Data each month and you're allowed to use this with your laptop. Would 120Mb cover your emails? I'd guess so.
