query re LCD and plasma
Hi there,
I'm hoping for some advice on hdtv's. My old tv has broke so I'm planning on buying one for my room and it will be my first ever hdtv. At the moment, i'm just looking but i cant seem to get by the first step. I dont want a massive tv. maybe a 26 inch one but no bigger. The thing is, i have looked up the definition of plasma and lcd but i dont know which one is better. The reason why i ask is that the other day i was just looking around in John Lewis and one tv looked blocky whilst panning and another tv was smooth whilst panning. Both were hdtvs but the smooth one was playing a dvd whilst the blocky one wasnt playing a dvd [was just tv]. The tv will only be for watching tv, sports and movies and not playing games. Can someone please guide me as to which type will be better? like pros and cons of lcd and plasma? thanks |

Plasmas have better black levels (some LCDs have a very greyish image), and dont suffer from motion blur (most LCDs loose lots of definition in fast moving scenes), also they tend to cope better with standard definition TV than LCDs do, (DVDs on plasma are far more impressive than LCD).
On the other hand, LCDs are far more reliable, usually higher resolution (therefore better for sky HD/xbox 360, etc), cheaper, and last longer than plasmas. Plasmas tend to start at about 42" in size. So you really have no choice other than LCD ... -Chris |
