The saddest song.....
I reckon it's either 'on and on' by The Longpigs or 'Let me kiss you' by Morrissey

When I was a kid, 'Patches' by Clarence Carter used to bring a sentimental tear to my eye

Tool - 10,000 Days
My mother suffered from MS for over 10 years before her death so this means a lot to me, personally. Otherwise "Lying on the Bathroom Floor" by Eels is tough to beat. |

I Need To be In Love By The Carpenters
or Now - Karen Carpenter (this was the last song she recorded before she died so it always brings a lump to my throat when I hear it) |

The 'offical' saddest song is Gloomy Sunday, also know as the Hungarian suicide song.

Family Portrait by Pink.... about her parents' divorce and her feelings. I couldn't listen to it for more than a year, having divorced parents.

the original version of song to the siren is so much better imho.. rawer (is that a word?).
For sheer tearjerks it's that old classic "Hurt" as sung by the man in black.. Who said Easyworld btw? Love em. "Bleach" is one of those songs that sticks on my internal jukebox for days. |

"Everybody Hurts" by REM is a classic.
or "Hello" by Evanescence (about dealing with the death of her younger sister). "without You" by Badfinger, although some may remember the Mariah Carey version. ...on a lighter note, anything by Westlife, 'cos I just wanna kill myself when I hear them on the radio ,LOL !! |

Badfinger were a great band with a legacy three classic ht singles, espcially No Matter What. This however is one of the greatest songs ever in my opinion. The tragedy was that Peter Ham and Tom Evans, who wrote it, never saw the royalties because they were signed to Apple at the time of The Beatles break up and all the money was frozen. They both committed suicide. |

The Drugs Don't Work is a real tearjerker if there's someone close to you who is dying.
Liars Tears by Embrace is a killer if you're breaking up. My Sacrifice by Creed similarly if you can't get to see your kids. Bloody hell, I'm off now

I always though this was superb but extremely melancholic. Sadly only just over 1 minute long.
