question about voting
winnielong

Why are some people saying they aren't going to vote at all, as their vote dosen't count anyway now ?

Why dosen't it count?

Thanks

winnielong

sorry for being stupid

Basically because the judges get the final say of who goes from the bottom two.

The public vote helps decide the bottom 2 when its combined with the judges marks (although we have NEVER seen a public leaderboard in all series - I would find it interesting to see how the public DID rate the couples!), the judges then decide which of the bottom 2 will go.

Basically they get 2 bites at the cherry!

This week it didn't really matter as the bottom 2 were the worst on the night - and TBH (well IMHO anyway!) Brian & Karen deserved the boot - although they probably did score higher with the public than Kenny & Ola and on that basis may have stayed under the old rules.

However it will be interesting to see what happens when one of the judge's darlings is in the bottom 2.

We'll see if they really DO judge on the actual performances on the night..... but I'm not holding my breath on that one - given their obvious bias (and disappointment with the results) in the past!

Ok so then aren't you as the public voting to keep your favourite out of the bottom 2 and therefore safe (as it was with ADWD)?

I feel sure that the reason it has been changed is to stop the soap stars constantly surviving even though they are sometimes awful just because they have a huge fanbase voting to keep them on. Remember what's 'is face from Eastenders a couple of years back? Constantly in the bottom 2, constantly kept in by the public. As dance fans, that was just so frustrating!

So while I agree that it would be nice to know how the public ranked the couples, I am happy that the judges get the final say.

I have some questions that may have been asked and answered elsewhere, sorry if it has:

How will voting for the final work? Will it go back to 3 finalists this year? Will there be a dance off? If there has to be a dance off for the top 2 or the bottom 2? 9If bottom 2, surely no need?) What I really want to know is: do the judges have the final say in the finals or is it down to the public vote?

I can't answer all of these questions, but I can answer some.

How will voting for the final work?
According to a BBC press release: In the final week the viewers will decide who will be crowned Strictly Come Dancing champion 2007.

Will it go back to 3 finalists this year?
Yes. The reason we had a 2-handed final last year was becuase Jimmy Tarbuck dropped out, but eliminations continued as normal, leaving one short.

Will there be a dance off?
Dunno.

If there has to be a dance off for the top 2 or the bottom 2?
Dunno.

If bottom 2, surely no need?
Dunno.

What I really want to know is: do the judges have the final say in the finals or is it down to the public vote?
See answer above. The public decide, according to the press release.

People always remember "what's 'is face from Eastenders" (Chris Parker), but despite being bottom with the judges and slated by them week after week, he was NEVER in the bottom 2 as the public vote kept him out of trouble.
The only time he was in the bottom 2 was in the semi final - and he beat Lesley Garrett to get to the final (and yes - Lesley and Anton were robbed!)

What the judges seem to have difficulty grasping is that the nastier they are to the celebs - the bigger their public vote is - hence the "shock" results. Georgina and Jan would have gone before Spoony and Ray last year if the judges had kept their nastier comments to themselves!

Yes, in principle the judges decision is a good thing - they should be able to eliminate bad dancers.

However, this, as Caro points out, this is only successful if the weakest dancers get as far as the bottom two.

So the power really does still lie with the public.
