Video from PC/server to TV
Hello all,
I'm looking at getting media from my server (I call it that; it's really just an old desktop PC which runs as a file server) to my TV and hi-fi system in a nice way with a remote control. Specifications are really that it can play streaming radio from the net (MP3, WMA, AAC+) and that it can play streaming video (whatever general formats) and stream video from my server (generally XviD AVIs). I've found this on eBuyer for about £130 (I think!), but is there anything cheaper? http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSit...Specifications The nearest Maplin had to this was much than same but was £200. I'd ideally like it to be under £100, given that it's a bit of a toy! |

That looks like quite a nice little box - seems to support a fair amount of stuff. You might want to have a look through the devices @ http://tversity.com/support/devices/ .
A couple of points to note.. Make sure its DLNA capable, and make sure it supports the codec's you need - I'm currently having to transcode all my recorded video's from divx and xvid into MP4 for xbox360 playback. And it takes freaking hours on my celeron 2.4ghz 'server'.

Well, if you're not worried about a big(ish) ugly (to some) black box, you could get a modded Xbox with XBMC for around £40...
