Matt - a real latin dancer
Bob Yarwood
08-10-2007
Contrary to what three of the judges thought (well, they are only stage dancers, after all) Matt is the only male celebrity with a real latin competition style, and he a has a brilliant partner. Now that Karen has gone, I think that couple are going to do the best latin dancing.

What do you mean by "real competition style?"

I am basing it on several decades of watching real ballroom competitions, local and national.

I mean the style you will see if you go to watch real ballroom competitions - there is a weekly newspaper called Dance News which gives details of competitions all over the country.

And I meant that the judges (well, three of them) marked Matt down for what I thought was a very good stylish cha-cha.

I'm no expert but from what I have seen of Matt i agree with you.
I have seen professionals perform on many occasions at my dance class parties and comparing him he does look very comfortable doing latin

I thought he looked petrified and a little stiff in the cha-cha-cha (or as Craig put it CHAR CHAR CHAR). However, having said that, his jive was much improved, performance wise.

As a dance teacher myself, and coming from a family of dance teachers and competitors and trainers of competitors fraid I don't really agree, of the men he is probably the best, but as of yet not showing real confidence for me as for style - good medalist but definitely nowhere near competition style yet

That's what I love about people closely involved with the Dance World - they never agree!

I think Matt certainly danced the jive with great style and not a lot of celebrity men can do that (too bad he was so petrified when he danced the cha cha cha).
Looking forward to seeing him do other latin dances, I think he could do really well.
