i really like the look of this one ..

http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_ku990_viewty-2070.php

they're getting it on "3" and I can upgrade in exactly 4 weeks, so i'm hoping the release date of October the 15th i've read is actually the right one ..

Anyone heard any different ??

Orange get it sometime this month. Having played with it the other day I can tell you it is one ugly big beast.

Nope, LG were very proudly showing it off at the recent Orange roadshows. It's also in the October Orange magazine.

Nice one

thing is, i've had a clamshell phone for about 6 years and i've always preferred them.

not sure i'd get used to a regular handset like that.

but it looks sooooooo sexy

It's not regular, it's touchscreen.

interesting. i think the LG slightly edges the iphone in spec.

divx playback is a huge plus point over the iphone for me.

and the LG is a 3G phone - the iphone isn't.

if only "3" would get a date for it, i'd know when i can get one then

I suspect that like the choc, shine and prada it'll be buggy as hell and prone to failure. I'd wait a while to hear about user experience before getting one. Which as a 3 customer is what you'll have to do anyway!

popped into the carphone warehouse yesterday to see if it was out yet and just happened to bump into the LG salesman who had it on him.

it's an amazing handset - i looks incredible and in the 5 minutes i got with it, it's pretty easy to use.

has full screen, widescreen divx playback for one.

you can use the video camera to capture video in 120 frames per second true slow motion as well - we tried filming the guy chucking his pen in the air and it's excellent quality and perfect slo mo.

i want !!

It's an LG, it will go wrong.

That's the spirit!

I've personally found that since the debacle of the 8xxx Series Handsets, LG have turned a corner. Their recent 3G handsets have been fairly rock solid and a very low return rate.

Can't talk for 2G though. Which is just as well, as the U990 is VERY 3G.

Anyway, Jason - Cheers for the update! Still thinking of getting one? I've got 3 friends on 3 ready for upgrade, holding on for it.

Is the pope catholic ?

the LG guy said they're shipping them this week or next week to my local area, and i can upgrade officially in 2 and a half weeks, so i'll 100% be getting one.

I was a bit wary because i've been so used to clamshell phones and have had clamshells in various forms for nearly 10 years, but this one is too good to pass up.

I base my comment on the fact that the most common phones I see returned do to faults are the Chocolate, the Shine and the Prada.

And all those are 2G handsets.

There is a 3G shine, but last time I checked, it was exclusive to 3 and returns on that specific 3G handset have been low.

The recent 3G handsets from LG are pretty top notch.

You seem to have missed my point. In my experience LG have a problem with build quality and QC. Full stop.

Perhaps you also missed my point.

In MY experience, LG's 3G handsets since the 8xxx series were discontinued have been of excellent QC and there have been few returns.

This is only MY experience of the 3G handsets 3 have sold in the last year and a bit. I can't vouch for other networks, but the above is correct for 3.
How many 3G handsets have LG made available on other networks in the same period?

My point is that while their 2G handsets often leave something to be desired, they seem to have cracked it with their 3G ones.

You stated "If it's an LG, It'll go wrong". I disagree as I find their recent 3G handsets solid enough (if a little dull).

Their 2G handsets may well be rubbish and blow up at the drop of a hat for all I know/care. I don't have first hand experience with 2G LG handsets. I do with 3G ones and they're Pretty Darn Good.

Full Stop, end of paragraph.

Orange retail take delivery of this handset this week.

Cheers for that. Either way, whoever gets it first, it doesn't appear they'll have it exclusive for long!

Three have it on their website, which, for them, means it's available now.

But there's a catch.

Their claim of "any phone, any tariff" doesn't quite apply to the U990.

There's an additional £9 charge for 90 video minutes on the U990, which on the face of it seems non-negotiable.

So it looks like most people who take it will be paying £9 a month for something they'll never ever use.

I actually do know someone with another 3G video phone, and between us, we have 30 video minutes a month. We're lucky if we get to 10 minutes total a month.

I'm trying to decide if it falls under advertising standards to be honest. I want the handset but I don't particularly want to pay £9 a month for 90 video minutes when I barely use 5 at most.

See you in the Orange store then!

Cool .. a date in a mobile phone shop

My credit rating will sadly not permit me another contract with anyone else, so Orange is out.

Besides, 3 are still the cheapest out there.

The tariff i'm looking at if I want this phone (complete with useless £9 a month deeley) is £27, which gives me essentially 800 minutes and 100 texts.
