I am hoping for some better choreography for the slow foxtrot this year. Apart from that superb performance from Ian and Denise Lewis, the efforts in previous years have been disastrous - jumpy, jerky stop-start choreography which show no understanding about what the dance is all about. They even put chasses into it, and most of the time it looked like a sort of half-fast quickstep. As for that ghastly effort from Darren Gough and his partner, in over 40 years of watching competitions (and occasionally competing myself) I have never seen anything so awful. I remember one step they did, which went right heel, left toe, right heel, left toe, in promenade, at a sort of clumsy gallop.

Above all, the foxtrot should flow smoothly but rhythmically. It is the most subtle of the dances, which I suppose is why few people understand it. Anyone who would like to see it done properly can get demonstration videos from www.dancesport.uk.com ( I hope I don't get into trouble for advertising!)

It seems odd that the celebrities are often marked down for poor choreography, which is the responsibility of the professionals.

Hello Bob. Just watched ITT tonight, and Ian and Penny are doing the quickstep. It looks like Kate was practising that when she got tendonitis. I have had it in my forearem and it really is excruciating. Does this sometimes happen with beginners?

What do you think to the quickstep? As someone who hasn't done that much dancing I'm interested to learn about the ballroom (and Latin dances) and enjoyed the features they did last year on ITT where they went into details of each dance and a bit about the history.
