Two series a year

I was just wondering why countries such as Australia and the States have two series a year and the Brits except for series 2 and 3, only have it once a year. Are British ballroom dancers on a different training schedule than others? I mean all the American dancers start training in September for one series, the series finishes most likely early December and then they start back maybe one to two months later for the spring series. Then during the summer, I believe that there is some kind of nationwide tour. I wonder if they compete and when they find time for that.

two series a year here would be overkill, most of the pros in the SCD series here dont compete anymore except for the Bennetts

Two per year will be a bad idea. Even too much of a good stuff will be bad...

I think Anna Trebunskaya is the only DWTS pro that competes.
Programmes in the US are generally on TV for longer so 2 series a year lasting 9/10 weeks is not a surprise. A series of Prison Break is on for about half a year, including breaks.

I wouldn't want SCD twice a year, I like it in the autumn/winter. I'd hate to be inside during spring/summer obsessing over strictly, which no doubt I would be

And The Jordan's.

Two series would be the worst idea. The whole point is it's an exciting run up to Xmas thing.

As much as I would love to watch SCD twice a year (I could watch it every week to be honest) I truly hope that never happens.

Having it once a year gives you something to look forward too and it means the viewing audience won't get bored with it. Dancing With The Stars gets two showings because the main tv networks in the US have suffered a huge loss of viewers to cable. DWTS is a huge success because it was different, hence advertising revenue --eventually people will get bored of it and it will get cancelled. That's life in the US.

Our version, the original and best, could last a few years if it's managed properly (kind of iffy there considering it's the BBC) and kept to once a year so people don't get fed up with it.

Well, It would be better than Dance X and Graham Norton (unless he replaces Brucie)

And didn't the second series of our verson started 3 months after the first?

Massive overkill.

The series lasts for much longer than it used to as well, now that there are 14 couples taking part.

I have to agree with the general consensus, too much of a good thing would spoil it... and us I suppose, I am wondering how this series will sustain for the run and it does seem to be spreading it thin with 14 'celebs' and their partners. Keep it as it and let the colonials spoil it for themselves.

Massive overkill - which is why I think there is only one series per year. Also it is on Saturday night on the BBC which is a key TV slot; I don't think the channel could ever give up so much time to one programme. (Despite them doing this when it first came out) DWTS is on Monday/Tuesday night which is slightly different!

There were two series in 2004. The first one which started in May, ending in July, and then the second one which started in October, ending in December.

I was emotionally wrung out by the end of the year!

No way - the pleasure is in the release after all the anticipation!

Plus many of the Pros do have other events planned and booked over the course of the year

I love the build up to the first show, then each week leading up to the holiday season. I agree it would spoil it and take away that whole special SCD feeling.

One is good , two would be a mistake .
I think they had a second series in 2004 as the first was such a surprise hot , the BBC thought it was worth another series whilst it was still popular and it has grown like Topsy since .
For me 12 celebrities was sufficient , 14 too many and I'd have one week with no exit , and stop this equalling it up .This year , a lady will go when maybe all should stay another week .

I lovvvvvvve SCD - but agree - 2 series would be too many...and they would start to run out of good celebrities to include. Also agree that it's just a great time of year for it - dark outside, and all sparkly in the run up to Christmas.

Totally agree - it is perfect TV for those dark cold nights between October and December, and it fits in with the excitement of Christmas. I really love the formality of the show.

As well as the overkill I also wouldn't want them to risk scraping the bottom of the barrel for celebs.

I would think the reason the states do 2 series of DWTS is to catch as many of the SWEEPS periods they can (viewing figures are taken in certain key months February, May and I think October and they are used to calculate the cost of adverts during those shows).

That's why there are always big gaps in series like Lost, West Wing, Friends, Heores etc etc and lots of repeats are shown mid -series.

So DWTS have slightly less dancers and 2 series.

That is overkill and far too much work for the pros. They would be even more exhausted than they already are.

hey Lemon Lyman - love your name, are you a West Wing fan?
Dollystanford

it would dilute its popularity and you'd run out of good celebs

it needs to stay once a year - the excitement I get when it's October again is always worth the wait
