Nuisance calls?
Silverhawk
10-10-2007
Have had odd calls this evening from some kind of automated voice talking about a message for us, then keeps saying it's trying to "connect" us. Have hung up on it twice so far, has anyone had any similar nuisance calls lately? I dialed 1471 and the caller came back as 0018002239113. Tried calling our phone company's customer support line to identify it, but all they know is that it's American.

I now answer the phone and then press mute and leave the phone on the side - they're paying for the call.

We haven't got caller display or anything, it's an old phone. So we don't know who's calling before we pick up.

Just don't try phoneing it back.
It'll be someone trying to sell you something you don't want.

If by accident you get to speak to someone, try to remember they're just some poor underpaid, exploited worker, and not the boss. Just say no and hang up. Don't let them go into their script.

No intention of phoning an international number, especially a weird random one like that. If they're selling something, it's certainly an odd way to go about it. I was just wondering if anyone else has had trouble with the same number. I've heard of a scam when they ring you up, but do something techie so you are charged an astronomical sum for it. I'm hoping it's nothing like that

Does taking the phone off the hook overnight to stop nuiscance calls waking you up at 3am or 4am cost you anything in your telephone bill?

No - There is an annoying howler sound which will warn you it's off hook for a bit tho.

You could just unplug the phone or put it on silent.
