Sarah Lancashire is to star in a forthcoming episode of Doctor Who.

The ex-Coronation Street actress will play Miss Foster, described as an "enigmatic and powerful businesswoman".

She told the Press Association: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be in Doctor Who. It's a brilliant episode and I'm looking forward to taking the Time Lord on."

Lancashire will feature in the first episode of the new series alongside David Tennant and new companion Catherine Tate.

She can currently be seen in the movie And When Did You Last See Your Father?.

Dr Who finally becomes the ITV show we all knew it would become.

Let's guess theh next fre crap actresses and actors (ITV vehicle actors) to appear:

Carloine Quintin.
Robson green.
Martin Clunes.
Pauline Quireke.
James Nesbett.

Sarah Lanchasire is an ugly cow who is a CRAP actress - everything she has been in stinks to high heaven.

Wow, you don't mice your words...

I'm a bit indifferent on this one. Only really seen her in Coronation Street.

I agree with BG on this. It doesn't really matter how many big names or good actors they bring in. It all hangs on a good script and direction. Without that there's nothing but a lot of Russell T Daviesisims.

I have no problem with it whatsoever.

And just before the oh so predictable 'celebrity' posts start, Dr Who has always used well known TV actors of the time, lets not conveniently pretend that all of a sudden this is just a new reboot thing.

James Nesbitt is BBC surely?
Caroline Quentin - Good Actress
Robson Green - Indifferent, but is overly used on ITV
Martin Clunes - As above
Pauline Quirke - Would not say she was overly ITV.

Would not class any of the above as "crap"!

Yeah Sarah L is as ugly as Billie

So they cant cast "Celebrities", They cant cast "Anyone who has appeared on ITV ever"

Would you like to provide a list of people you would like to be seen cast...

And Clunes has already been in Dr Who ... Peter Davison's 1983 story Snakedance:

Indeed Rumour control says that is going to happen

Yet his nibs Mr Murphy strongly denies this!

Hmmm, is it a case that he is protesting too much

Or is rumour control totally wrong

The only reason this is a rumour is because people have no imagination- James Nesbitt stars in a series by Stephen Moffat, who writes for Doctor Who, therefore he must be the new Doctor.

They are not going to cast the part a number of years prior to needing a new actor, and if they are looking around for possible leads it would be some exciting, fresh new actor making waves, not some plank who has been knocking around in tired comedy/dramas and adverts for years.

Christopher Eccleston starred in an RTD drama (the Second Coming) and goes on to star as Doctor Who in the revived RTD produced series.

David Tennant starred in another RTD series (Casanova) and he ends up replacing Eccleston.

Producers like to work with people who they can trust/cast their mates etc etc.

It is therefore not unreasonable for people to infer that, should he take over the helm, Stephen Moffat would also follow the same path and cast someone he trusts too!

If there's any imagination lacking here, it's with production teams who always go for the safe bet.

Must admit I've never heard of her, or of some of the other 'celebrity' names, partly because I don't watch much TV and of that I wouldn't touch soaps with a bargepole - life simply is too short. I've only ever seen Catherine Tate in trailers for Little Britain before her Who appearance and I think I prefer it that way.
I liked the guest star in 42 but I'd never seen or heard of her before, on that episode alone I thought she was great.

Granted, but Eccleston and Tennant are talented actors, in a completely different league to Nesbitt.

Eccleston was an interesting left-field piece of casting, while Tennant was a relatively new talent, who on paper was spot on casting for the Doctor- Nesbitt would most certainly be a an achingly dull safe bet.

A really offensive and unnecesary post which can only be applauded for containing the worst spelling I have ever seen.
