In principle the new format can work but what is going to happen when a couple (a la Emma or Zoe) are clearly unpopular with the public and always end up in the bottom 2 only to be saved time and again by the judges.. If that happens i think the BBC can forget about any ratings.
This kind of happened in the first series of Dancing On Ice; Bonnie Langford was essentially given a bye to the final. Although there were some shocks along the way such as John Barrowman being voted off by judges and public so early.

If there's one thing that's clear from this thread and others it's that Stephanie and Vincent have a lot of support out there. We may all have our fave pros and celebs but we also seem to be rooting for the class act that is Stephanie. Here's hoping she lives up to our expectations because we've all raised the barrier for her!

[quote=Hamlet77;18610839]Good grief, you DON'T want to see, sundry sportmen, tv presenters and soap stars excel at dancing from day 1.

OK the schadenfreude (sp) element is pretty good at the start, and it is nice to see 'the journey' of those seemingly less able each year.

No! No! No! No! No! I'm lovin ya logic Hamlet but don't you know the "J" word is compleeeeeeetly banned on these boards!! xxxxxQS

There is of course the chance that they have simply landed dances that they are naturally good at right at the start. As soon as I heard the Kelly & Brendan pairing I immediately thought 'rumba' and it may well be that there are plenty of dances that come less naturally.
I totally agree -Kelly doing the Rumba and Kelly doing a QS are 2 different things (obviously).

The Rumba was an obvious choice for K and B's first dance. The Rumba is very technical but it can look better if the couple is very attractive - Kelly definitely is and can do 'sex appeal' greatly. But can she jive, can she tango? Remains to be seen.

I do agree with the original poster however. There isnt as varied a mix as usual - only 3 of the celeb females could be seen as not going down the young, lithe, gorgeous route -thats Stephanie, Letitia and Kate -and these 3 are all lovely as well. Im personally hoping this doesnt turn out to be as bland as I think it may be

I may be wrong but are the majority of posters on this thread female. I`am a guy and I can`t wait to see these girls strut their stuff. I think the only problem is that they may all be too good and the GBP does have a habbit of voting for the underdog so I can see a few really good dancers going early. This week should be interesting as one of the girls has to go.......I just hope the public don`t vote for the underdog as the judges will be forced to choose between two potential winners. As the original poster suggested if there had been 6 hunky guys who could dance she would`t have felt this sense of anti-climax.Where all human and we like too see a hottie of the opposite sex shine.. I too would like to see the guys improve and give the girls a bit of competition...... and if they work hard you ladies may get your jouney man to support......My money would be on John Barnes as an outside bet.Infact I`am tempted to put a tenner on him to win myself ( 16-1 with william Hill)

LOL!

Height aside, the cynic in me did wonder if she was paired with Ian for more than simply height reasons ~ would Rod have been happy with her dancing with someone more likely to have an interest in the ladies? (am I being too vague here? )

While we're totally off topic and dicussing OH's ~ how cold exactly was it in the studio, that poor Billy Zane had to wear a hat AND a scarf?
I get your point, but who else could have danced with her? Brendan would be the same height as her in his socks, and even Matthew whould have been an inch too short when she's in heels. Any chance Rod was being ironic? And how about the suggestion of jealousy arising with the Billy Zane/Brendan thing? The beeb could be trying to stir things up there perhaps.

I actually find myself torn this year. I think the four girls are already great dancers and all seem to have formed good relationships with their partners, but I'm kinda hoping that some of the others stay in for the fun factor. We need characters this series, I found last series they were all a bit bland, except possibly Matt Dawson. I am hoping we'll get some entertainment value from the likes of Stephanie, Willie, Letitia and Dominic.

I am being very disloyal here, as I am a fan of both Ian and Camilla (trying not to be biased, but think Penny is sweet). Would be OK if one of them one though.

Bruno - please note it will not be possible for you to award an 11 at any stage).
Too. Damn. True! Keep yourself under control, please, Bruno, 7s and 8s only and maybe a 9 if you can't contain yourself when Ian takes to the floor. Leave yourself somewhere to go!
