good morning!

Please help me! I am trying to find a good deal - my boyfriend wants to get a new tv, either 40' or 42' and he wants it to be HD Ready, but other than that we're not sure what to get.

I have seen a few that we like and are ok prices, but I was wondering if you kind people could let me know which brands are good brands for tv's and which brands to stay away from?

It would be such a great help you would not believe! thanks in advance!

go for a brand you have heard of.

Have a look what to prefer, LCD or Plasma, it is so close now its down to personal choice, but i would say go for Plasma.

LG have some good deals

that's why I get confused you see! I heard off someone a bit back that LG wasn't really a very good brand.
I want something that would be a long lasting tv and value for money, im hoping it will be lasting a long, long time!

Well nothing lasts very long anymore in this disposable world.

I have found LG ok, although i have never had one, working in an electrical store i see more than my fair share of TVs.

I have a Phillips and it broke twice in 18 months, so i would never buy phillips again, but someone else who has never has a problem may say different. Most of this TV game is personal choice.

If i were to buy a new TV it would be a Pioneer, they are 100% the best money can buy. If i was strapped for cash ( like i am) i would get an LG.

any help?

You wouldn't buy a pair of shoes without trying them on so don't buy a new screen without seeing it in action.

I will be going to various shops once I have a rough Idea of what I'm after.
It's like timmillwood said though - things don't last like they used to. I had a 2nd hand Granada portable telly when I was a kid and it lasted about 12 years, and I only got rid of it then cos I started work and wanted to buy a more modern looking tv with a remote control! but I wouldn't even dream of anything lasting that long nowadays!

I've been looking on-line for several months, and I've been reluctant to part with my cash with prices falling. However, I seen a TOSHIBA 37X3030D 37" HD Ready 1080p digital LCD TV last weekend, and had to have one. After searching the web I found it this morning for £699.99 with free delivery, and bit the bullet and bought it, for delivery Saturday. The site I used was Laskys, which it turns out is a division of Comet, who are selling the same model for £899.

I've had a couple of Toshiba's - had the 32WL66 and now is upstairs in our bedroom as quite large anyway, and went for the 37X3030DB a few weeks ago from Sound & Vision...

The website overall is very good and gives all the specs - but would advise to look around first before making a purchase as commented before, it's best to see the tv's in the flesh.

You can get a rough idea of what you will get for your money for that size TV's by looking here.

hi i am looking for some new tvs also and have been doing a lot of research reading every review i can find . i was told by the man in richer sounds that lg make a lot of the panels for other people anyway and he said it was something silly like 9 out of every 10 were made by them. . However i paid my pound for trial on the which website and they dont say too many good things abt lg tvs. I just bought the 42PF9831D from phillips as read it was fantastic but now i read elsewhere the reliability is a bit dodgy so will see . now looking at either the toshiba 42x3030d which u can get for 800£ish which some reviews say very good but can be a little poorer on normal day to day tv which lets face it is probably gonna make up most of your viewing. Apart from asking the bank manager to help you buy some pioneers the best reviews i have found and the consensus view seems to be panasonic lcd give the best picture for normal SD but they only go up to 37 inch in lcd but i think thats gonna be the one for the kitchen and the study wall and two bedrooms and the little ones playroom......... oh dear i better go and check the piggy bank.
