Hiding surround sound speaker wires
Brian Fantana
11-10-2007
Is there tubing or something i can get that will hide them against the wall but still look ok? At the moment im keeping all my speakers at the front on the display stand rather than around the room, as the wires look so unsightly. Or can i staple them to the carpet? Im reluctant to do too much like that as im renting, and the landlord might not like it.

go up behind curtains and staple to coving... thats what i did but i think better sound if speakers up high!

try it and see before stapling wires

you could always try on top of skirting boards

Why not put the cables under the carpet? It quite an easy thing to lift the carpet edge. Just follow the line of the grippers underneath the carpet around the edge of the room.

Failing that, most DIY shops do a narrow white conduit that you fix around the skirting.

Curtains and carpets can hide a multitude of cabling sins. I'm not sure if you'll get any Christmas cards from your landlord if you start running conduit around the walls.

If you can't easily lift the carpet, try using a spoon or other blunt instrument to persuade your cables to nestle in any slight gap between carpet and skirting board.

If you dont have any type of furniture solution to dress-out vertical cable runs on your walls, find speaker cable that most closely matches the colour of your walls, just so that its less noticable.

You could always suggest to your landord that you will clip the cables to the walls, then re-paint the walls for him. He'll probably see it as you doing him a favour... and you'll still get a Christmas card.
